Good grief!

Post by Nadbadger »

What a wonderful piece of software!

Many, many thanks to whoever is responsible for this - I spent rather worrying proportions of my life from ages 3-10 or so playing Elite, so this is sort of a trip down memory lane, only all the houses there seem to have had some seriously mind-blowing home improvements

Brilliant!

You have one Giles Williams to thank for creating this little gem, plus a small horde of avid helpers adding their two-penny worth!

...oh, and welcome to the Oolite forums! :D

Many of us were exposed to Elite at tender ages - I don't have that excuse, I was already plenty old enough to have known better, but it didn't help!

We too are enchanted by what Giles has done in recreating a truly classic piece of computer gaming history, many to the point of endangering their IRL relationships!!

Have fun, and if you fancy your handy at coding, it is pretty simple to create your own add-ons - have a look around the forums and you'll find loads of helpful hints and plenty of people ready to help if you get in a muddle.

Yes, Mr Giles is truely the master of modern retro gaming!
I think he deserves a medal for his project.
Although my wife would like to kill him. :D

Then a million thank-yous, Mr Williams!

And Star Gazer, never fear, you never had a chance - age seems to be of no avail against the irresistable pull of Elite - back when I was talking about, my dad used to pull all-nighters on Elite once my brother and I had been forced to stop playing by dint of being asleep. My mum was almost as happy about that as hungover's wife...

I upset the lady of the house when I very first made ELITE - in 1984, I think - when I involuntarily shouted "YES!!!" - about 3am!

I'm sure the nieghbours thought it was for a very different reason...

Yeah, I had my neighbours knocking on the door to check if I was ok after I got killed as soon as I hit Elite - I had screamed my annoyance (not docked/saved yet, Doh!) and they thought I had been physically attacked.

These days I have neighbours who know better.
The act of talking b*ll*cks whilst waving one's arms about wildly is referred to as testiculation.
