ThinkPad Keyboard - Keymap

Post by rroesch »

Hello,

I have 2 special Key's on my Thinkpad T510. They are located at above the left/right arrow key and look like they would be for navigating last/next page.

Anybody an idea how to configure the keymap to use these keys for yaw left/right ?

Thanks,
RR

This is what your keyboard looks like then, I'm guessing? I've never seen these keys before but there must be a way of getting the values for these keys so that Oolite will recognise them. I seem to recall a similar question before, try searching on the forums because I'm sure this has come up before.

Sorry I couldn't be of much use... (No change there!)

Hello,

correct, this keyboard looks familiar :-)
The important keys are the two above the right/left arrow. That are the ones I want to use for yaw left/right.

Any help ist is welcome :-)

Thanks,

I am trying to find the right value of those keys. If you can find out what they are then in Oolite\oolite.app\Resources\Config\keyconfig.plist replace those values with the ones in lines 6 and 7 keeping an eye on the correct syntax.

Unfortunately I also don't know a lot about keyboard codes. I seem to remember, though, that not all keys are actually mappable for Oolite. So you may be out of luck for at least some of the special keys.

Things like home, end, pgup etc. seem to suggest that you're on Windows. If I'm wrong and you're on a Mac I have one more suggestion: Try the Oolite Keymapper. That's a useful tool which creates a keyconfig by walking you through all commands and letting you press the key you want it assigned to.

At the very least you'll be able to open the created keyconfig and have a look at the codes that were assigned. That'll tell you what the codes for the special keys are.
Don't know if the keymapper program works on Windows though, if that's what you're running? But it might be that you'll not be able to do this...

Might be better to make a copy of keyconfig.plist, change that and put in in AddOns, where it will over-ride the core plist. This way you won't risk the core plist in any way.

Hello,

I tried the keymapper Tool, but it did not work, because nothing happens when I am in the check-boxes and hit that keys.

:-(

on further Googling I still can't find the values for those keys. It might be a good idea to go on a forum for ThinkPad's and ask there for the values or Email Lenovo for them.

see
- [wiki]Oolite_Keyboard_Controls[/wiki] - the official doc for Oolites keys.
- https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f= ... 8&start=17 for supported special keys.
- [wiki]Keyconfig[/wiki] for a helper tool.

In other words it won't work unless you are changing Oolites code on your own.

The keys for next/previous and last/first page are recognised by Oolite. The wiki only mentions keys that are actually used, so it gives no clue for which numbers to use for those :( But, try the keyconfig program by Svengali. He has added those keys in his options. Should work, even as his layouts are different.

Hello,

here some information (and solution for me):

The keys are the "Browser FORWARD / BACKWARD" keys.

I used the Tool keytweak:

http://www.heise.de/download/keytweak-1160085.html

to map the "," and"." to the keys. I did not use them for their browser function.

So I have them now in place and working for the correct Oolite function :-)

Thanks for your help which directed me into the right direction to find a solution.

Running xev(1) on an old IBM X-40 gives 166 & 167 for the keycodes of the left & right versions of those keys.

I'm pretty sure it's decimal.
