Have you seen the Fighter Hud? I've used the MkI version almost since I started my Oolite career, as I like the old 'instrument panel' style.

Hi and welcome Styggron - Glad you like the game and the oxps.

Further to what Smivs has just posted I would just like to say that I am a relatively new member myself, (2 and a half weeks - I only became a member on 10th May and made my first post on the forum 11th May) and I have had the most sincere welcome and fantastic assistance I could have ever hoped for.

I'm sure that you really will find that everyone on here will help/advise as much as possible with any queries and problems that you have. Be it general game playing, 3D modelling, scripting, texturing, putting together oxps etc their seams to be always someone on who helps.

So yes I can confirm that this is most definitely the friendliest board this side of Riedquat.

If you basically like the original HUD, take a look at this tidied-up and more logically arranged version.

G'day Styggron, and welcome aboard!

(Don't forget to upgrade to 1.76.1, just released today.. there's lots of bugfixes in it)
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Thanks Geraldine and thank you all for giving me a hearty welcome.
Yes I am trying to limit my time on Forums so I don't want to join too many. This is my 3rd and final one.

I have not upgraded to 1.76.1 yet, I have been lucky not to experience any bugs with 1.76 so far.

I wanted to put in some new OXP's so I thought ahh what the heck and got 1.76.1 :-)

Can't seem to get the Planetfall OXP working properly though, everything else is fine, I use GRIFF's textures and Famous Planets V2.5 very very nice.

Hi, Stygron! I am glad I found this forum, and I am mostly an oxp hunter... I am still going through the missions, that's an incredible game, indeed. Welcome!

With the wiki you could easily use a wiki category such as "For New Players" to create a page that brings together all pages that would of interest to a newbie. This could be all the pages that McLane mentioned plus all the OXPs that are ideal for those just starting out.
Chat and relax with other commanders in the DS's Seedy Space Bar. The Coolest Bar in the Eight.

I have often wondered about this missile fuel bit. The only fuel in Oolite is for hyperspace jumps and missiles do not. The AI's for both standard missiles do not check for fuel consumption. A missile explodes when:

Code: Select all

TARGET_DESTROYED
TARGET_LOST
ECM
GONE_BEYOND_RANGE
From this it would seem that missiles do not have fuel per se, but do have a limited range they can travel. Does anyone know what that range limit is? I've fired I-Missiles at targets and received a bounty many minutes later while docked. One reason why I removed that OXP. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The core missiles have a 30km range. OXP missiles can have any range defined by the author (or even infinite range).
