Planetary Texture Problems

I know, now what is this clown bitching about. I'm sorry, but my system crashed twice while in game, trying to fly a route I have been flying for the last several months with my main "Trader" ship, the StarMoth. Well, I'll just post the Latest.log warning, but the two planets to which it points are the very two planets I trade with on a constant basis. Never had this before, and I can't figure out why it's messing up all of a sudden. Honest, I didn't do anything to the core files, or anything.

I can't figure out why those particular .png textures are not present any longer, and I have looked all through my AddOns folder, and uninstalled .oxp folders. I just don't see the problem. Can someone please help me with this? Thanks.

mandoman, I'm also confused... can you confirm that the files Oolite says are missing are actually inside your Oxp folder?

I'm running oolite-1.76.linux-x86_64. I'm confused as well, because I haven't done anything to remove any planets from the AddOns folder. I don't have the "Famous Planets", or the "Povray_Planets" installed, because they both caused shader issues. Do I have to have one, or both of those installed to access two planets in Galaxy 1?

No, those png files not being there shouldn't cause any major trouble. Oolite should simply ignore the missing files, and carry on as normal... :?

Anyway, it looks like you've got a setting somewhere - either inside a planetinfo.plist or a js file - that says you need those pngs.
Have you tried to grep the AddOns directory for either Usatqura or Rexebe? It should tell you exactly which files asks Oolite for those pictures.
It's possible that whatever misconfiguration is there is also connected to the actual misconfiguration that's causing Oolite to crash. If you find it, we'd be really keen on having those misconfigured bits, so we can try and fix the crash you're getting.

SandJ had similar errors over in the Povray Planets thread, and discovered that he still had an old version of that oxp hiding around...

I'm still learning Terminal, and I might have got the command wrong. Do I cd to the .Oolite/AddOns folder before using grep directory? Terminal says it's working on what I asked for, but I think it's wrong.

I'm sorry, I've tried using "grep --help" to get the correct command, and have looked at three different instructional sources on-line, and I still can't get Terminal to cough up the Oolite AddOns directory. :oops:

This log file should be listing the OXP and worldscripts which are loaded. Try looking at the log from the beginning and perhaps post the section that describes worldscripts.

Well, I have to say that after a cursory scan of those scripts, nothing jumped out at me... There is the unhelpfully named "Test" script, which could be from anything and do anything.

Regarding your grep problem, try something like grep -lir "Rexebe.png" ~/.Oolite/AddOns/

Thanks, Maulby, but that didn't work either. I have tried several similar commands, and it either says I'm using an unknown grep format, or it just does nothing.

As for the Test Script, I can't find any trace of a test script in my AddOns folder. At least, not in any of my ship.oxps. I'm going through all the other oxps in the folder to see if it turns up.

Th part of the log where the installed OXPs (to be precise, the search paths) are listed would be more helpful than the list of scripts.

If the textures are requested in a planetinfo.plist, there would probably be no script attached, thus no script listed in the log.

Basically, there are no textures for individual planets and/or named after individual planets in Oolite. Therefore it must be an OXP that wants to use these textures. Chances are that it is a planet-texturing OXP. There are only a handful of those around. The most likely culprit would be Famous Planets, of course. It's the only OXP I am aware of that textures individual planets, and has texture names of the type "Planet name.pdf". So you may have a botched installation of that OXP; or maybe you have accidentally copied its planetinfo.plist into another OXP.

I have searched through every oxp I have in my AddOns folder, and none of them list textures for planets. I don't have any planet oxps installed. Haven't for a while, now, as they were causing errors, according to Latest.log. Now my latest Latest.log shows no signs of the planet texture problem. I don't get it. I guess I haven't crashed since before I started this thread, now, so maybe it ironed itself out. I don't have a clue......wait, I'm wrong, last night my computer crashed while I was torus driving away from a sun, after a refueling run. THAT was the Latest.log that showed two more planet textures missing. Here is the Latest.log after that crash.

That .dat error was a ship I was testing out, and I misspelled the name of the ship in the "model" definition. Have it correceted, and no errors. Could that cause such a problem? It's happened before without even a tiny glitch anywhere else. Very puzzling.

Well, your RepairBots oxp is stuck inside the Staer9 Spectre oxp, but I have to say I'm stumped on the planet problem!
