I just saw the screenshots of what it's all supposed to look like if one has shaders...man! I can see why that is considered essential.

I played Oolite on a friends machine with full shaders for a couple of hours. As we rounded the dark side of Zaonce (I think) and the sun came into view it was absolutely breathtaking. The normalmapped station glinted as it revolved and a normalmapped ship emerged from it and again caught the sun as it veered to avoid collision with me. Thank you for all that, it was a humbling experience. It was as I'd seen it in my minds eye when reading the Dark Wheel all those years ago. I couldn't find the OXP for the Tionisla graveyard for him but I dosed him up with what I thought to be a good mix of OXP's to keep him enthralled for the foreseeable future.
