I think splitting POVRAY planets up by chart makes perfect sense - no point in having or even downloading a super huge OXP if you can only ever see one eighth of it at a time. Better to download chart one and two - when you jump to chart two - download chart 3... Eventually you will end up with all eight charts worth but not in a mega-download!

Personally I don't mind - I've got a 10Mbit connection at home with no data limits and at work I have a share of a 100Mbit pipe (which before 8am usually gives me downloads of about 10MB/s)

(although: my boss lives in Swindon so currently has 50Mbit at home and is upgrading to 100Mbit in the next couple of months - but he downloads GBs worth of terrain textures for work at home because it's faster to do it at home than work for him!)

I only have 10Mb at home, somewhat unstable but generally does the job now that I have had a serious discussion with my ISP and they changed the DSLAM or whatever it is called, in the exchange. So leaving things to download over night works fine. At work I have a shared 500Mb, and I can VPN in from home so for the really big downloads I use that and just copy stuff out when I get to work. Unfortunately the 500Mb is shared by quite a few others during work hours and can slow to a trickle, especially during lunch.
