I'd like to turn the coronal flare off, but altering the corona_flare key in planetinfo.plist to 0.00 seems to have little or no effect... any ideas?
Also, can the hue of the coronal flare be adjusted to just one colour?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

To make it monochrome, set "corona_hues" to 0.0 (and maybe corona_shimmer as well, since the corona is less noticeable when it's not moving). It then takes on the star's colour.
I've had another look at this, and it looks like there are two parts to the sun's border - there's the narrow "atmosphere" which seems to have a constant size (blue line), and there's a fainter corona which (on my install, at least) seems to be affected by corona_flare settings (red line).
Once you shrink the corona_flare enough it ends up entirely within the atmosphere and basically invisible, but it sounds like you want to get rid of the atmosphere as well?
Yeah, I was aware of the two parts. For me personally, your pic demonstrates why I wish to remove the corona... it looks 'naff'! I have removed the hue, which improves it for me, but I cannot remove all the corona it seems... no matter.

Either I'm doing something daft (quite possible), or something is odd with my install (1.76).
I cannot adjust the coronal flare, it seems... in the first thumbnail it's set to 0.1, in the second it's set to 0.0:
Again... any ideas?

Another question re the 'universal' section of the planetinfo.plist: is there a maximum setting for the star_count_multiplier, or does it depend on the machine?

There’s no explicit limit. Set it ridiculously high and you’ll get performance and/or memory problems.
It looks like it's not actually registering the change in planetinfo.plist. Rather than shift-starting Oolite, try renaming the OXP folder that makes the change.

I've tried it every which way... even down to a fresh install of vanilla Oolite.
It recognises changes to the star_count_multiplier key, but not to the corona_flare key... odd!

Now you’ve gone and made me read code. Feel sorry for me!
The depth of the outermost corona layer is 0.04 * (sun_radius + 396000 * corona_flare), and corona_flare is clamped to 0…1, so the minimum corona thickness is 4 % of the sun’s radius.
I'd meant to mention this a while ago, but forgot.
It seems that the info for certain special systems stored in the savefile overrides the planetinfo.plist settings. Hence the corona persisting around Estiri in G7.
