i think "hummingbird" fitted well, given the wings and long snout.
Not exactly a name for an attack ship, too cuddly! :D
well there's an antiship missile called a Penguin and a SAM called a Gammon, so...why not?

Don't think so ... it's a good name, and carries extra SF bonus points from Hyperion, too!

Indeed!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Which is why I suggested Moloch. However, there's not that many "good" ones left - and might explain that in later episodes such as Frontier and First Encounters DB had switched to Cats and Birds.

Isn't Moloch an ancient Phoenician deity?

Most pre-Chistian deities were revamped as daemons, and their followers hunted and killed as apostates, heretics and witches.
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

I was, in this context, specifically referring to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorny_Devil

Mmmm... people are not looking for snake names hard enough...

JARARACA (image) . It's actually a cousin to the fer-de-lance. The name is also popularly applied to mothers-in-law...
