There are happenings that go on in this world and it al so applies to Oolite OOniverse.

I am happily hunting in the northeast corner of glaxy 5 when I notice some strange things happening.
Now, I have seen strange things but this is beyond explanation...
First, I managed to get a cloaking device and since I am not familiar with it, I just let it go as I tend to do everything up front and fully visible.
Second,when I used the long range targeting and planner,, everything slowed down to a snail crawl and I had to close the game and restart.
Third, I tried to go to an Anarchy planet to the seedy bar and once docked.. I got the message that my computer was too slow to load the 3 pages of bounty targets. WHAT THE !!!!!! this has never happened to me before, so I closed out any unneeded processes but that did no good. I left and redocked 3 times with the same message everytime.
Fourth, I tried to jump to another planet within the 7lr limit and it worked!!! What is going on here?
Fifth, I tried to jump to another quadrant and it showed my target planet but no listing of the plantes that I would sunskim.
SO, I go to the logs and find that I have a log that says that for the longdistance targeting oxp there is a java script error on line 58.
AHHA!! I found the program glitch but am unable to fix it and am crying as I say goodbye to my beloved vortex and my 4767 Kills
and while in my pod, I see it and my dreams of elite drifting off into the sun where I had sent it.

I have another unit (cobby MK III as a meek little trader) )in standby and I have upgraded it to another vortex: Master of Darkness it calls it self.... I like it.but who is going to seriously be scared of a vortex with only 1 Kill? Time to get busy and restart my countdown.. only 6399 more to go, again. SIGH!

Were you in Lazaso or Zeance by any chance?

I was at Zaenza (an average industrial, multi gov TL 9 planet)
I tried docking at Ceedra( mainly industrial, anarchy TL 7)

That message could also be triggered by a programming bug in the oxp. Such a bug would leave a trace in the log. A few weeks ago I removed one that could occur when also an 'unreachable' system was within 7 LY. (See random hits thread and this report.)

The Long Range Scanner slows everything down by TAF. If you press SHIFT F, that will display the framerate, then press p to pause the game. Using your cursor keys press right till you see the TAF read 1.00. That will bring the game to normal speed.

That problem was discussed Here. Also Make sure you have the latest release.

Let us know how you get on with those two suggestions.

YAHOO!!!!! FATLEAF....your suggestions worked like a charm upgrading to the latest beta version worked wonders... I have the ability to use the jump planner, can get my 3 pages when at an Anarchy and so far, have had no problems with slowness. Although my other ships did show slowness and your suggestion for that worked perfectly.

And which version of oolite are you using, there seemed to be a bug in oolite in the previous versions about systems sharing the same location, but with oolite V.1.75.3 I am not getting the error messages!

OKTI... was using 1.75.1 now using 1.75.3....no problems have surfaced as of yet... keeping fingers crossed

I have a couple issues with this problem told by Sky Warrior Yah Ta Hey. But this comes from my narrow view of playing the game. I tried your Long Range Target Scanner Okti and while respecting your rights and abilities with this OXP I removed it for the cheat that it is. I had expected quite a different product. Secondly, I am constantly amazed that players take such massive shortcuts. In this instance, starting the game with a Vortex. That's like taking my beat up 40 year old car to the dealership and trading in for a Rolls Royce with no money down.

MY good Captain... when I upgraded to the vortex from my cobby... I had over 2 mil credits earned on that ship... I have been playing it since I started..... My goal was to see if I could amass a fortune while keeping the kill ration as low as I could... that meant a lot of flying off course, keeping to safe sections and when I got enough , I got the long range targeting to cut down my "down time" of flying through empty space. You may think of it as a cheat as you are probably a purist in word and deed BUT I see it as a tool and as a tool, It is time saving in form and function. Since you know how much it takes to purchase a vortex,, you will appreciate the flying time I have in the cobby.
I trust that this reply addresses your issues to a degree that will satisfy you that I did not "do a drastic shortcut" in gettimg my Vortex.

Greetings good captain,

I did some thinking and since I got my original vortex back, I do not need a trader vortex.. besides they really don't lend themselves to trading.... too much temptation to kick some space rats tail. I just docked at a TL15 planet and traded the vortex in for something that looks like a trader: Griff Boa... took a good awful drumming from the salesman... You probably know the hype... bringing in a forty year old gun runner and expect to get a fully equipped Anaconda for equal trade... Well.. that certainly did not happen... I feel like a sheep that just got fleeced. Fortunately I had enough left over to outfit the griff with the necessities... now to get back to trading and see how low I can keep the kill count... Thanks for putting the thought seed there...
