How would people feel about an annual Oolite Ooscars awards, to be held through January & February each year?
What I'm thinking is say 67 10 Categories....
1) Best overall OXP to date. (must work with the current release of Oolite).
2) Best OXP eye (or ear) candy to date. (must work with the current release of Oolite).
3) Best new overall OXP of 2011.
4) Best new OXP eye (or ear) candy of 2011.
5) Best 'Tale from the Spacelane' of 2011 - (from the thread of the same name).
6) Best Screenshot of 2011 - (from the thread of the same name).
7) Best new Oolite fiction of 2011.
8.) Best Oolite fiction to date.
9) Best Your Ad. Here Advert (suggested by DaddyHoggy)
10) Unsung hero of the Coommunity 2011 (nominate any member for any reason, but could be extensive play testing and bug reporting , inspirational ideas for OXPers, plain helpfulness, cartographic services, wiki-wizarding, spam killing, humour etc etc you get the idea.)
Nominations would open throughout January and be via PM to the Ooscars president (whoever that may be...me I suppose as I've proposed the idea). Members can make up-to 3 nominations for each category. What constitutes 'Best' is entirely up-to those making the nominations. A little description of why that nomination is being made would be helpful to create some blurb for the next bit.
From 1/2/12 a shortlist of 3 to 5 entries for each Category would be made based on numbers of nominations and posted as a series of polls. Voting would close at the end of February and the winners announced on 1/3/12.
Prizes will be......well nothing.....except a dedicated wiki page to list current and previous shortlisted entries and winners. If the entry has it's own wiki page you can add that it was shortlisted or a winner to that page.
Winners can use a natty little graphic of the Ooscar (based on ADCK's Gold Plated Cobra) on their wiki page.
Thoughts, criticism etc. all welcome.

well, it would give us all an excuse to get our hair done and dress up in glamorous frocks i suppose
I'm all ready
Every pumpkin should have a little red dress.
For categories, why not just use how the oxp's are subdivided on the oxp list. Best ship, best equipment, etc.
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.
We could split the OXP categories into OXP ships/stations and 'others' to separately recognise the artists/modeller OXP'ers and the scripters? Although it's not always as clear cut as that.
Winners will be expected to provide an acceptance speech.....
There are others who have gone the extra mile to beta-test Oolite to find bugs even if they didn't do a single line of code themselves.
They got repeated crash-to-desktops...or worse...so you won't have to in the future.

A category "Best Bugfix"?
Unsung hero 2011? - Could be any member for any reason.....play-testing beyond the call of duty, helpfulness to other members, spotting typos in fiction, submitting great ideas.....

Well there is still a good 6 months or so left for peeps to write their masterpiece and some other good stuff posted this year. Best Oolite fiction to date? 3 titles by different authors spring to mind for me......
