What a brilliant idea!

Gangs could mark their territories this way!

Neither well the scientists be pleased, aerosol cans shouldn't work in space, and even if they did, they would propel you backwards :P

Space Graffiti !!! I likey very much! :D

Anarchies should never be the same again as gangs mark their territory and Corporate States should have a few rocks with more artsy stuff as the rich kids practice/emulate the gang bangers in neighboring systems.

This is just the kind of thing that improves game immersion and sucks you in. Good job Staer9! :D Oxp in the works?
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

The asteroids are coated with a special polymer by the taggers - this polymer reacts when struck by low levels of laser light by going from transparent to a colour, a colour which is based on how long the laser energy was left exciting the polymer...

To be honest I was thinking about abandoning the idea, but the coments have put me back on track

Anyone want their alias on asteroids? I'm still working on textures

Nice idea...really cool. Try setting smooth = yes; in the shipdata.plist to round them off a bit.

in the official release it will be, at the moment I am just trying to create as many textures as possible to create more variety (or it would be quite boring just seing the same graffity on every asteroid)

Could people do their own?

You could post some baseline Asteroid textures you use here - and then people could tag it and post it back!

For those who'd like a tagged 'roid but have no skill could ask/beg for others to do it for them...

I like to mark my territory!
Find out about the early influences of Fatleaf here. Also his OXP's!

If you want to tag your own asteroids I have created a new thread here: https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.ph ... 18#p142618

so as not to derail this thread further

Does that mean if I want a jellybaby asteroid, I've got to go to the other thread?

This could as easily have gone in Tales, but since I got a few screenies, I'll put it here.

So I finally saw the Ghost Ship. I've had the OXP installed for ages, and have sometimes seen the notice that it's been sighted, but this time I was wandering along when I saw a big fleet of Vipers apparently escorting a Cudgel Class Battleship. I flew around the mass of purple flags for a bit, trying to see if I could figure out what they might be up to, when I saw something else..

Image

Hot diggity dog! I matched speed and was trailing the odd ship when the controls started to act up and equipment started getting mysteriously damaged.

Image

Equipment kept going bad, and then a bunch of pirates appeared out of nowhere and began attacking and *then*..

Image

Ohcrapohcrapohcrap.. I managed to dodge the big-blue-balloon-o-destruction, but I lost sight of the Ghost Ship. The pirates weren't so lucky on escaping the "Azure Death".

So I limp back to the main station and pay for a bunch or repairs (and the almost inevitable maintenance overhaul), jump to the next system, and I run across the Ghost Ship again! Well, you'd think that I'd have had enough with one encounter, but no. I started tailing it again. This time I played around with distances, trying to figure out how close I had to get before the equipment and controls went weird, trying to find a safe tailing distance so I could see what the Ghost Ship does. But suddenly a bunch of missiles appeared out of nowhere and I hit the injectors to try and outrun them and there was another Quirium cascade and.. Well actually I'm not entirely sure which killed me, the missiles or the Q-explosion. It might have been a tie, since I was between the two and trying to turn my ship fast enough to get out of there. "Press space".

Oh well. This pic is my contribution to collection of mysterious pics in Oolite. In proper UFO tradition, it isn't real good, and it has no real reference items or readouts one could use to figure anything out about the ship for certain.

Image

Now for my cockamamie theory.. It may not be a ghost at all. I mean, how would a ghost get ahold of Q-devices? Probably a super secret Navy ship, out on a test run. It's just too suspicious that I first sighted it in the near proximity of a big fleet of Navy and police ships. Or it might be something even more secret, like some sort of projection or drone that people are supposed to *think* is a ghost, so they flee an earea and don't see things that "certain interests" don't want them to see.. You know who I mean. The IllOominati!
