Super Ship Speed

Post by mandoman »

I don't know if my posts are becoming irritating, or not, but I have a question. I have come across several outlaw ships, like Asps and Kraits, that will turn on a dime, and race away at about three times the speed of my own ship (without Hyper drive). How are they pulling that off? I don't think it's an advantage, except to maybe keep from getting blasted out of existence, but it's a little disconcerting that they can even do it. Sorry if this was an ignorant question.

Fuel injectors. You will be able to do it as well when you buy for your ship.

They're using fuel injection. Get a set and try pursuing. Lot's of fun. :)
Take an idea from one person and twist or modify it in a different way as a return suggestion so another person can see a part of it that can apply to the oxp they are working on.

I knew I was missing something. I thought the fuel injectors were only for an emergency Witch Drive jump. I'll give it a run.

Another question, while I'm at it. Do I have to have a certain score in order to even be able to find ships like the Werewolf, or any of the other non-standard ships? I've been to a couple of systems with ratings of tech 14, and 15, but just get the same ships as are offered everywhere else. :?

No, but you will need to install the OXPs

Hi Mandoman,
I think of fuel injectors like a turbo drive on steroids. And they do use up fuel rather rapid.
If it's just the two of you, just head after him and when he goes off scanner 'J' jump after him. He will run out of fuel quite quickly, as said the injectors drink quicker than Bronanian teenagers on a bender.
LOOK OUT!!!

There are no other ships unless you install the OXP that contains the ship you're looking for.

Before you go hunting in the shipyards you should also make sure that a player version of the ship exists in the first place.

I've got all of your OXPs....I think. I downloaded everything I could find on your site, and put the OXPs into the ADD ONs file. I also got all of Griff's ships, and other OXPs, I think. If there are any others than his and yours, and the others listed on the OXPs Wiki page, I would be very grateful if you steered me to them. Thanks for the info guys. :)

More or less all available OXPs should now be listed on the Wiki page.

Note that "AddOns" is not a file, but a folder. It is where you have to drop the folders with the ".oxp" extension into. Note also that it has to be named "AddOns" (uppercase "A", uppercase "O", the rest in lowercase, and no SPACE in-between). "ADD ONs" is not the same as "AddOns".

And back to the fuel injectors (and any other equipment): You find some basic information about all equipment items of the basic game in the Wiki, namely from the [wiki]Oolite_Equipment[/wiki] page. This links to info pages for all available equipment items, and also to another directory for additional OXP equipment.

A lot of the OXP ships are supposed to be rare, so will only appear in shipyards occasionally, and normally at higher tech level planets.
Assuming you have correctly installed the OXPs, a trip to a TL 14 should give you a wide range available - High TLs always seem to have more ships for sale anyway.

However, I think they will tend to have more high-TL-ships for sale, and not necessarily a lot of low-TL or medium-TL ships. I think the best chance for finding a ship is to search shipyards with a TL just slightly above the one required for the ship. So for a TL 7+ ship like the Werewolf chances would be best in a TL 8 or TL 9 shipyard, and slowly getting worse in higher TL shipyards. At least I think that's how it works.

I seem to remember the same thing, so if not, we're both crazy!

Keep in mind that if you want a specific ship, it is easier to find them if you only have a few ship oxps installed.

I was going to say this too - if you're looking for a specific ship - only install the oxp that has that ship as an extra - it's more likely to show up amongst the stock ships in the shipyard as there's a much smaller pool of ships to draw from, buy it, then put back all your other OXPs...
