Commander Rastoogi

Post by Commander Rastoogi »

Experienced Annaconda commander looking for work.

I have returned from an early retirement. Experienced pilot, lots of time using multiple control consoles - Acorn Electron, BBC electron, Atari ST/Amiga.

My god, damn the Thumbles! TIps on getting rid of the pesky furballs would be appreciated- Ive tried escape pods but always seems to be one that gets in with me.

Hi Rastoogi and welcome... trouble with Trumbles, eh? Very tasty when flame-grilled with BBQ sauce.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Welcome Commander Ratoogi,

you will find many an old-timer on the forum, but plenty of young blood too.

As to your apparent Trumble infestation, I'm presuming you've not yet purchased any heat shielding and spent a very long time sunskimming for fuel? Trumbles, you will discover, like a nicely air conditioned environment...

Ninja'd more subtly by the great EV and Smivs!!!

I was sitting with the altimeter flashing, smelling them Trumbles cooking away. CT full and red then the shields dropped with the trumble.

Is it possible to remove my heat shielding?

Studies conducted by the Lave University's Department of Biology in 3095 indicate that the members of the species Trumbellus Omnivorum (commonly known as "trumbles") are highly resistant to virtually any extreme environmental condition, except heat. During experiments, it was observed that, the aggressiveness of the species was notably increased when the subjects were exposed to temperatures higher than 55 degC, to the point of inducing signs of uncontrolled manic behaviour, resulting in attacks amongst members of the same group to even acts of self-killing. In the case of the group studied, all subjects were dead either by said act of violence or simply heat effects, before exposure to 62 degC had been achieved. (Lyttle, Sethlein & Noceerxe, Nu, "Trumbellus Omnivorum: A study of the natural limitations of the species", University of Lave Publications, 3095).

That's all I could find in the bibliography, but I believe it should be helpful enough.

A more cautious cooking session solved my cargo problem and my hunger problem!

Thanks for you advice and welcome !

Is there a 'must have' list of OXPs anywhere?

It's so much down to personal choice and wants.
There is a full list here.
General advice is to start with eye-candy, new ships and planets etc, then add others that you like the look of from time to time. Don't go for loads at once otherwise you'll never work out which does what. And remember a lot of missions are specific to certain galaxies, so there's no point installing a G7 mission OXP if you're still in G1.

That question has been asked a lot of times - it depends on what you want - Eye Candy? Griff's all in one ships, Simon B's ships, Famous Planets, System Redux. Missions? Random Hits, Long Way Round, Asteroid Storm (for the beginner in Galaxy 1), Extra Places to Trade? Your Ad Here, Hoopy Casinos, Commies. Ambience? Snoopers, Personalities, BGS

These are just the ones I use (not that I have time to play much any more).

Welcome to the friendliest board this side of Riedquat...

Can't believe I finally got to say that before anyone else did! I think that's a 'woot' or at least a 'Right On, Commander!'

Welcome aboard!

As has been said, it's all down to personal choice, but I agree with Smivs' advice... start with eye-candy. Personally speaking, there are two OXPs that I really wouldn't like to be without... Fighter Hud and BGS. The former is entirely down to your taste, but [EliteWiki] BGS gives such great background screens.
