Perhaps, but so often the two are close. One or more screenshots with a bit of story about what was going could be thought of as a "Tale", and if one has a good pic to go with a tale, it could also be thought of as a "Screenshot". So the two cross over a bit, I think.

With the Generation Ship pics, I took some screenshots because it was the very first time I've ever personally seen one. The OXP was one I installed very early on when I started playing Oolite, because it sounded really neat, but I never saw one in my own gameplay before. I took a little time to cook up some "framing" to present it, just for fun and some ideas spun off it. I'd run too low on fuel to get back out of witchspace, so I died in a futile attempt to dock on the Generation Ship. I was dead anyway, may as well go out trying the impossible. So a flight recorder being found seemed a natural idea for how the pics might get back to where they could be seen.

Personally, I considered the pics the important part, since the Generation Ship was so impressively huge and massive. The pics don't even really do it justice. I swooped around it for the better part of an hour studying it and appreciating the concept and "feel" of it in the game. I knew from reading that a docking attempt would be useless and fatal, but I had to get to "press space, Commander" somehow. LOL

The spin the various creative folks here took on it after that has been great fun.

Found myself back in G5 again, so I decided to revisit Dioris, a planet famed throughout the Eight for its exceptionally low moon and its exceptionally high tides.

I really must try and park my caddy there one of these days, it looks most tranquil.

SimonB's Constrictor is a very nice piece of work. Encountered in an Anarchy in G5.

Gorgeous ship. Top job Simon - lovely screenshot A_C.

Anyway to smooth just that rear dome? The faceted nature slightly spoils otherwise near perfection.

My 'Commander ElViejoStalker' also visited the beautiful Dioris recently. Here's my take.

I wonder whether the texture of the two pentagons on the right side should be flipped to mimic the three other pentagons. :?:

I see some really cool pictures in this thread where the user's ship is visible from the outside instead of looking out the window.
Nooby question here: how do you move your viewpoint out of the ship ?
Is that some kind of debug-trick or can that be done during normal gameplay by anybody ?

Hi zsozso,
You can access the external views by pressing 'V'. These will give you some nice views of your ship. I think the ones you're thinking of are using the 'Cinematic' view which is non-standard.
El Viejo's post here gives you the co-ordinates to add to the shipdata.plist.
If you're not sure how to do this, just ask :D

You can also press 'p' to pause the game and then 'o' to turn on/off the HUD for those clutter free shots.
