Help with the constrictor hunt needed!!!

Post by Commander Otley »

I need some help with the constrictor hunt mission, I am trying to download the hints file but it is a RAR file and I'm not sure what to do. Alternatively I am currently in the Arexe system and the blog states that "an unusual shp had a intergalactic hyperdrive fitted and used it too" when I hyperdive to galaxy 2 there is no clue to where the constrictor is please help if possible!

Check the F7 planet information screen when you jump into a new system in Galaxy 2 ... there are hints as to the whereabouts of the Constrictor when you get on his tail.

Have you got a program to uncompress .RAR files? If not you need to get one. The one I use is http://www.rarlab.com/ At the top of the screen you will find it is written "You can try WinRAR before buy, its trial version is available in downloads." Click on the downloads link at the end of that sentence and choose one suitable to your system. Load it up and Robert is your fathers brother!

Once that is done just load it up as any other OXP.

I prefer 7zip, it is free and capable of opening more types of archives...

I use The Extractor
It's freeware and very easy to use, (CNET 5* reccomended download)

You can drag and drop multiple files and it will unzip/rar them instantly to where you want them, ideal for a bunch of OXP's.

Commander Otley, how are you progressing with the Constrictor Mission?

BTW the first time I fought the Constrictor was with DeepspaceShip OXP. He fled on injectors after a few hits on his hull. Then I moved that OXP out of the Add Ons folder (temporarily) and fought him with the core shipdata and the Constrictor JS. Totally different plus when replayed, a different scenario each time. The funniest is when he was swarmed by about 15 GalCop vipers and viper interceptors.

I'm not sure I approve of OXPs influencing 'core' missions. Are you sure it did that?

I don't understand. DSS shipdata plist for Constrictor includes:
script = "oolite-constrictor.js";

With that OXP he behaved the same every time I encountered him - he ran away on injectors. On the fourth try I used jump when he was out of scanner range and kept that up till he ran out of fuel.

Without was different every time. Sometimes he ran other times not and then that one time the cops went fast and furious on him.

Anyone have an answer to this riddle?

Edit: DSS came with another Config folder, the zip was named, non override config. I did not use it.
