Yeah... he's brilliant, no doubt of that.
It's those missiles that I'd like to see under my Cobra... Griff?

Re: Cobra MKIII
And with the new script possibilities in 1.75, it's reasonably easy also to have them actually fire off from their position beneath the ship and vanish from the ship model, and return again when the ship is re-armed. Of course all missiles (ie all items on pylons) will look the same, but it can be done...El Viejo wrote:Yeah... he's brilliant, no doubt of that.

Thanks Thargoid... I suspected, but dared not hope, that that was the case... <pleading tone>Griff?

Re: Cobra MKIII
I consider missile pylons to be internal bays, much like torpedo tubes on a sub.

I like to think it's all different, some inside, some external. all depends on the designer, all these different worlds - it's likely that some ships would be 'just wierd' to my colonial human eyes.

Re: Cobra MKIII
The position of ordinance has a lot to do with drag and resistance, but out in space you don't have such an issue. So the real question is... what looks cool

Re: Cobra MKIII
The geometric shapes that many of the ships resemble probably also map closely to its shield boundaries. That is not a border to cross lightly, even as a ramming ship.
There's mention in the Dark Wheel novel about missile rests internal to the Cobra 3 in particular. Part of the reason why ships are limited to such pathetic missile loads are they have to be internally mounted and any missile using explosives as we know it has to be insanely powerful and/or large to seriously damage or destroy such ships. So there's simply no room for many.

Re: Cobra MKIII
For what it's worth I always consider the pylons to be internal. It makes sense particularly when considering pylon-mounted kit like fuel tanks etc, where the contents have to end up inside the ship, and as was mentioned above, the idea of 'torpedo tubes' is cool.
