Maybe a stupid question, but what would the AC stand for then ?El Viejo wrote:The more I think about it, I think McLanes ‘sensible’ idea is good.
The Cobra Mk III AC…and it already has the 'seal of approval' from a_c.

Assault Class?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Perhaps if it is to become the Cobra AC then the AC could stand for Advanced Concept, having failed to produce the MkII after the successful MkI, this would have been the precursor/test-bed to what eventually becomes the Cobra MkIII

Sounds good too, and using an abbreviation leaves it open for names:
Assault Class
Advanced Concept
Ancient Corroded
The Cobra Mk-III AC
Let's go with that shall we ? or are you guys enjoying this too much

Good try but too close to my previous "Nemesis" and numerous people shot that name for obvious reasons. Sorry mate.pagroove wrote:Cobra Genesis

Re: {WIP} Remember this ? New Model screenshots ...
Personally, I'd drop the MkIII, this is the ship that could/would become the production MkIII, but it isn't that ship itself...
Cobra AC
Cobra Assault Class (a stealthy model designed for the military?)
Cobra Advanced Concept (testbed for cutting edge tech that would eventually end up in the real Cobra MkIII making it the superb all-rounder we know it to be)
Cobra Ancient Corroded (because even engineers have a sense of humour?)
Perhaps AC is the same as RL(tm) AMG is for Merc, a specialist tune-up company?
Alien Creations
Amazingly Creative
Astronomical Credits
etc...

Yeah, we're enjoying it... three variants:dertien wrote:Assault Class

- Assault Class has better shields, but slower top speed
Advanced Concept has [insert hi-tech stuff of your choice]
Ancient Corroded speaks for itself

Re: {WIP} Remember this ? New Model screenshots ...
Another 'going all sensible' remark:
I wouldn't emphasize the prototype-aspect too much, because prototypes are—by definition—very rare. If you want to create a player-only ship which is basically only offered once, that's fine.
But if you want you ship to appear regularly as a trader/hunter/pirate NPC it makes much less sense. The player may meet several of the ships in each system. That's not what I expect of a prototype.
So, if the back story makes it into a prototype of the Cobra III (or an intermediate development step between Mk1 and III), there must be a reason why it was released to the mass market, yet still the familiar Cobra III was developed.
The obvious solution to this problem is of course to not pay too much attention to the back story and just enjoy the ship.

Re: {WIP} Remember this ? New Model screenshots ...
i'm not getting into the naming argument, but i know the ship's supposed to be a Cobra of some type, but i can't help thinking it's more Mambary, given the slim design.
