I was doing a bit of zombie topic browsing (while I was supposed to be working) and I came across the following old topic...
Outrageous charges
...and it got me thinking...apart from broken equipment that happens as a result of combat (or sloppy docking in a Boa ), do laser and incidental hits have any other effect on your maintenance charges?

It still needs fresh oil and filters every 12 months or 10 000 light-years

Re: Ship maintenance
No. Your ship simply degrades randomly over time (of course you can blame it on laser hits and energy damage, but the game code doesn't calculate so sophisticatedly).Bugbear wrote:Ido laser and incidental hits have any other effect on your maintenance charges?
The offer of maintenance is made as soon as the "degradation factor" has hit a certain value.

The amount you pay is a fixed proportion of ship value. The value after servicing is simply reset to 100%. It shouldnt make any difference who services the ship, or how long you leave it before servicing.
Not servicing a ship does have a negative impact, both on things going wrong, and on resale value.
