Hi folks ... I recently did a clean install of 1.74.2 on my WinXP 64 bit system. I'm using an ATi Radeon HD 4870 with Catalyst 10.9 drivers and controls on a 1920x1080x32 wide display.
For some reason, I think Oolite is not getting the correct OpenGL version:
Run the game from the command line (or modify its shortcut) so that it uses the -nosplash switch. This will bypass the spash screen and hopefully resolve the problem with garbled graphics and incorrect OpenGL version recognition.
It's something to do with the ATI drivers I think. I disabled my 2nd monitor and now most of the Oolite Option choices work, except for choosing the screen resolution and full screen/windowed choices. They do nothing ...
I still have to kill Oolite from the Task Manager.
I think I'll roll back and go to 10.7 or so and see what happens.
When I first had the graphics problem, I tried a different compatibility mode for oolite.exe ... I set it for Win98 and forgot to set it back ... Wrong thing to do as the oolite.exe process wasn't being killed when I left the program ... Hence, it wasn't removing the .lck file ... Duh! Silly me ...
I did have a graphics problem initially and I think using the -nosplash flag allowed Oolite to set the OGL version correctly. I'm not using it now and everything is working perfectly.
