x64 aka x86-64 aka AMD64

Figures this is my first post here; I am surprised after searching this forum that no one has suggested a 64 bit compile (for windows at least) of the source code. I have windows xp 64 (on a very modest Athlon 64 socket 754 @ 2.2 Ghz) and anything that can be done to get extra speed will be appreciated.
