I need a suggestion: ACS or AMS?

Post by Dave McRoss »

I have already installed ACS, and I'm tempted to buy also AMS for more security (I have a quite iron-assed Python at the moment, but I'm a sort of defence system maniac), but I'm dubious about cost/performance. SOmeone can elucidate me? THanks :)
My ship list:

Cobra MK 3 - Lepka
Dragon M - Smaug
Python - Boa Pitonato
Cobra MK 3 - Lepka II
Now in a Python ET Special - Shark Panzer

You can use both side-by-side with no conflicts. They'll compliment each other.
Keeping both systems topped off in their respective ammo loads may get costly, but it's still much cheaper than repairing the damage from a hardhead or torpedo hit.
Running Oolite buttery smooth & rock stable w/ tons of eyecandy oxps on:

I haven't run into a missile that needed more than ECM and Witchspace Fuel Injectors. How much slower is the Python than the Cobra 3?

A quick question, though: Is it possible to shoot down missiles with the laser? Me and a friend spent, like, thirty minutes trying and dying before we gave up.

Possible, but hard to hit.

you need to lead your cross hair in front of the missile, notice how the missile spirals toward you, when it spirals at the lower section dive and fire, and with luck and timing you can hit it, this is sort of strafe shot, so a pulse laser is not worth much, however the beam laser is perfect for this job, and letting the missile chase you instead of flying towards it and therefore mount the beam laser at the aft, is the best solution..

I was wondering if they had collisions, and I accidentally found out while playing by ramming my own missile.

I've sometimes been able to get missiles chasing me to crash into asteroids or even the main station. This still requires using fuel injection a bit...

Iron-assed
Python
Is that a cruiser or the regular version? I'd say go with something else if you're planning to really mix it up.

Take both, you'll need them. Especially if you're in the later galaxies when all sorts of nasties are packing hardheads.

It's a Python ET special. I think I'll change it for a Caduceus or a Supercobra, but for now I'm doing contracts and I need cargo space with a reasonable top speed.
