New ship suggestion

Post by Newt_Othis »

Been mooching around G1 for a while now and the old Cobra Mk III is starting to feel a little - erm - long in the tooth.

Don't get me wrong - I love the old bird - but feel it's time for a change.

Anybody got suggestions for a new ship that:

* Won't fall apart at the first sign of trouble
* Has some cargo space
* Will suit a commander with a clean legal status that dabbles in the odd bit of bounty hunting

I've got a reasonably iron-ass and 100k in the bank, but am willing to pull a few more lightyears to earn the extra credits.

Thanks
If she's playing Farmville, I can play Oolite, right?

In my humble opinion the cobra 3 is pretty much the best of the "native" oolite ships. There are some that are bigger for trading, but I think the cobra is the best balanced.

If you are talking OXP land, then the world is your oyster, you can go as far as you want depending on your views on what is too über or unoolite (are turrets too much, etc.).

Hi Newt Othis,
In my opinion the only core ship that will fit the bill is the Boa II Class Cruiser, but they are pricey. Its almost as fast as the Cobby, almost as manouverable, and has 175TC cargo space...it's huge, but suprisingly nimble. The other big advantage is that you can fit any equipment to it, unlike many of the other ships. It can be seriously Iron Assed!
Might be worth saving up a bit more cash.
Or, as has been suggested already, check out some of the OXP ships.
Oh, and before I forget, Welcome to the 'Friendliest Board this side of Riedquat'. Good to have you on board, Commander. :)

Why don't you try a Python ET? :)
My ship list:

Cobra MK 3 - Lepka
Dragon M - Smaug
Python - Boa Pitonato
Cobra MK 3 - Lepka II
Now in a Python ET Special - Shark Panzer

If OXP ships are to your taste my most successfull Commander to date flies a Dragon M http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Dragon with lots of lovely turrets!! It's fast and deadly with a reasonable cargo hold. If you aren't keen on the paint job you can use this one instead

My other favourite though you might think it a little 'uber' is one of the ships from the Star Wars Ships OXP, the B wing. Again a reasonable cargo hold, LOTS of missile turrets, very fast and quite zippy too. Again, a reskin is nice as the one it comes with is quite basic. I like this one on mine:

Ends up looking like this

If cargo is your future one of the Kirins could be your ship. Massive cargo hold, good defensive capability, fast but a BIG ship so you'd better be a good pilot to park it!

Thanks for the tips.
Mmm, interesting. I have been eyeing up a Python ET...

Nice paintjob on the B-Wing.

I tried the Star Wars shipset a while ago, but something just didn't seem right. It's like my brain couldn't handle the crossover of the two universes. Hats off to the person that put it together though.

A big problem with the Python ET is it only has 3 missiles max. The Boa II has 5.
The Python ET may not be allowed to have Military Shields, which makes it far less survivable against pirate groups.

The Python ET is indeed faster than the Boa II though...

I can always recommend an Imperial Courier. Wonderful ship for a bounty hunter. Its sleek silhouette doesn't give your enemies much to hit, it has a fair cargo capacity, is reasonably fast and manoeuverable, and—last but not least—the sight of it alone will put fear in the hearts of anybody you're going to take on.

Nono, Python ET has the possibility to install Military Shield, believe me :)

Oh NICE!! Do you have any other textures for the Star Wars ships?
