Mercenary Clones?

Post by SparkyNZ »

Oolite is fantastic!! What better way to breath new life into one of the two games that I spent hours if not days playing when I was younger.

The other game for me was Mercenary. I know there's an MDDClone but has anybody ever seen something similar to Oolite but for Mercenary/Damocles etc?

Mercenary would be such an awesome sandbox to play in. Has anyone ever had a go at developing something similar? Imagine combining Oolite and Mercenary.. being able to land on planets, walk around, enter buildings.. missions and plots.. Ooo... Maybe one day! :-)

Welcome!

The code is open source - feel free to crack on...

(I too loved Mercenary (Amiga) and a modern gfx version would be sweet)

Guess? Oh no? I'm stalking you...

Actually, seriously, notice I'm a "spam assassin" - I've got in to the habit of Googling the handle of all new members - There were enough SparkyNZs around to indicate that 1) you weren't a 'bot 2) you're a programmer...

Power of Google - scary and amazing at the same time!

(yeh, two kids here too (8yr and 3yr) - time sink-holes are they not?

I should create a ship called a Spam. I'd have to find a way of forcing a jump into cyberspace for a Spam attack.. It would sure be one way to get your rating high quickly.

Actually I only got as far as Deadly on Elite. I remember the day on my C64 when the message popped up about the Constrictor mission. I pressed some key in the hope of saving my position and lost the incoming message.. went back to my saved commander and could never get it to appear again. That was a very sad day in the history of Elite playing.

Call it Spamalot...

:)

No Constrictor mission on the C64 - tragic indeed...
