AH! So what your saying is; if the game can look unaltered yet more truthful decisions be made then your all in favour?

One thing that has happened in rugby (irrespective of the "natural breaks" argument) is that controversial issues raised by players, officials, team managers where a recording of the match can be reviewed and the cheating/misconduct proven then that player can be cited after the match - thus leading to a fine and/or ban. It does not change the outcome of the match but persistent offenders find themselves much poorer and playing very few games.

So for example, Henry's "Hand of Frog" incident - it couldn't change the match outcome (bad for Ireland) - but post-match review should have resulted in a 10^8 Euro fine and a 1000 match ban (Ok I exaggerate "slightly", but the seriousness of effect of the cheating should be taken in to account).

Also, "did the ball cross the line yes/no?" - could be done instantly and electronically without stopping the match at all (in football) (as could - "did the ball go out?" - electrocute assistant referee who fails to raise his flag, and if players and ball were tagged, this could be done for offside too)

Not so much "look", more "play", but yes, pretty much. An in-goal sensor, or even just two extra officials at each end on either side of the goal, patrolling the dead-ball line, making decisions on goal-kicks or corners, keeping an eye on the penalty area in general and checking to see if the ball crosses the goal line. In fact, I think I'd favour the extra human officials over the technology, as being cheaper, easier to install and maintain, and vastly more versatile.

We already have that, with players' misdemeanours being punished after video evidence has been viewed. That doesn't happen after your Sunday league game down the park but I don't think it's had a detrimental effect on the game as a whole.

Unfortunately yes, in which case you just have to say "no goal" and get on with the game, in much the same way as a batsman in cricket gets the benefit of the doubt as to whether he hit the ball, or a catch carried to the fielder.

That's certainly true, although the number of times a player is punished (or exonerated) after the fact through use of video evidence is still vanishingly small. It also happens after the game: it doesn't affect the playing of the game itself.

Oh well, the people of Uruguay are all the happier. Too bad though that it won't matter much as they will meet the Netherlands in the semi finals (which would have been the same fate met by the team from Ghana, should they have been better at penalty shots)

shame Ghana lost yesterday.

It was like we won yesterday. I live within the center of Rotterdam. Tommorow the Tour the France comes within 150 meters of my house !!

Gonna watch it of course !!
