Can you please post Latest.log, after restarting Oolite with Shift held down?

Hmm. Looks like some drawing commands are being ignored, or it’s somehow using a single-buffered context. I don’t really know what to do about either, except wait for better drivers to fall out of the sky. :-/

It isn't that it can't draw the entire sight, it does so briefly, occasionally.

The same goes for the text. Once in a long while it will write it correctly but only very briefly.

Probably will solve my problem if I just get a card with an NVIDIA chipset but I can't do that right this minute.

I really appreciate everyones assistance. If anyone has anything further that might help I'd love to hear it.

New to Oolite with the exact same problem

Post by acmesediver »

Just discovered Oolite when I loaded Ubuntu Lucid Lynx and checked out the games. I was Majorly jazzed to see an elite type game, having happily played it in my youth.

However, I having the exact same communication and scripting problem on my laptop. Any insight would be appreciated.

Probably the best option is to try the proprietary drivers, in the non-free (as in free speech, they're still free as in free beer) section of the ubuntu repositories.

On a few occasions that solved all rendering problems

Mesa unfortunately hasn't yet reached a stage where everything works flawlessly... :(

Can you show us what's inside Latest.log? Hopefully there's a clue to what's happening inside that file...

Post by acmesediver »

Of course, before I ask that I did some searching to see if I can figure out how to do that, but to no avail.

Merci!

No, I mean the proprietary drivers supplied by the card manufacturer: ATI, Nvidia etc...

There's an howto here:

http://www.ghacks.net/2009/04/15/using- ... in-ubuntu/

It's about Intrepid, I think, but the method has remained the same for all ubuntus since: Jaunty, Karmic, Lucid...

So, I go to look at the game again and it is no longer installed after I shut down. Reloaded, same flashy graphic error, shut down, and no longer installed again. Brraaagghhhrrraahhh! My Commodore 64 was less trouble... :)
