Creating Ships

Post by Phoenix4 »

Hi guys,

I'm currently trying to learn the basics of Maya and 3DS Max for a work project we're involved with.

To get to grips with modelling I've decided to build craft, ships, cars etc. The thing is, some of the models would look good in Oolite! :D

Question is, how would I go about getting them into the game - say from Maya?

I've had a look through the forum, and forgive me if I've missed it, but is there the equivalent of a step-by-step tutorial available for this software?

Thanks guys!!

Hi Phoenix4. I'm not sure if it deals with your specific question re. Maya, but the best tutorials and general advice on modelling are on the wiki, here.

Simple answer is that if Maya can export to OBJ (Wavefront) files, then you're home free! Obj2DatTex will do the rest of the work for you.

Remember the poly limits though!! The wiki will tell you more about that.
