Thanks ,

here is the OXP

it spawns a numb cougar outside the station
you need set oolite to draw wireframes from inside the options menu
in order to see the cockpit, and possibly the wireframe drawn exhaust of Elite C 64

Some interesting reading there.
I had the standard BBC Elite and there’s no Cougar in that shipset, which is reassuring, as I couldn’t remember it.
Note: In Elite Plus, there is also a message in the code welcoming you to the 9th Galaxy.
No-one has yet found out how to get there.
I’ve now restarted my hunt for a couple of old Elite Plus savegames, that I know I have somewhere.
I’m sure I’d been in G9... my rank was Archangel, so I must have been.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I thought you got the Archangel rank for saving some space station or planet in the Nova mission or some other mission. I know I got the same rank in Elite Plus, but can't remember going to galaxy 9.

Yeah, you're right... it was a station that had been taken over by Thargoids and you had to destroy it.

I'm sure I recall being in G9, though.
<must find those savegames>

<edit to add> Yeah, it was the Thargoid Invasion mission… a difficult one, as I recall.
Wish I could remember which mission awarded the anti-ECM equipment.

You're talking about the ECM Jammer aren't you? I believe it was in the Amiga/ST Elite.... but may also have been in Spectrum Elite also....

Googled it. Found the following at: http://wos.meulie.net/pub/sinclair/game ... rogram.txt
WE'RE JAMMIN'
The first is the ECM Jammer System which, as you'd imagine, jams your
enemies' ECM Systems so they're unable to deflect your missiles when
you fire at them.
This is apparently given to you by the Federation to complete your
first mission - blow up the Thargoid overrun Space Station at
Tibedied.

I was thinking of Elite Plus... the Wiki says:
Elite Plus had a ninth galaxy and a new title, "Archangel", for the player to earn. Archangel is reached by undertaking a special mission to destroy a space station in a system invaded by the Thargoids. The player's reward for completing the mission is to receive the title Archangel and obtain a device that is capable of emulating anti-ECM broadcasts. The ninth galaxy can only be reached by hyperspacing into Witch Space.

The ECM Jammer was in at least one of the speccie versions. They were all I ever owned when I was younger and I can remember it.

I remember that ship.

The other people who played Elite on the C64 thought I was hallucinating when I described it at the time.

Saw it once, repeated that flight 50 times afterwards to see it again, but no luck. It remained a unique sighting.

It has been 25 years or so since I saw it. I remember thinking that the two side nacelles were round, if they were simply drawn triangles in a wireframe environment I can imagine how I jumped to that conclusion after seeing the thing up close just once.

Thanks, Frame, for digging that up! :D

(Can we now have the Cougar, the ECM Jammer and Galaxy 9 in Oolite, please, after it was proven that they are canon? )

I'm so sorry i made a mistake. Not the first and not the last :?

The Different way Elite draws have confused me...
I retraced the faces...

This is how it should look, the "prongs" do end in a point, but is also attached to the hull at the front...

Thank you DaddyHoggy for keeping me at the fire regarding that.. :-)

Image

The oxp contains the faulty version though still..

Now it truely looks like a dagger..

:) That's how I remember it - still can't explain why I thought it was thicker (non-pointy) at the prong tips - but that shape is definitely more how I remember it - and I also remember - it wasn't the 2nd ship we saw on the BBC Master version it was the 2nd ship we saw when we played it on my friend John dad's Acorn Archimedes!

Strange ... now it looks less like the one I remembered - the thing I saw had two pylon-like objects protruding left and right similar to your first drawings ...

Hmmm. Does this mean that if you engage the Galactic hyperspace unit from witch space, after a misjump, you travel to Galaxy 9. I have to dig out Elite Plus after my exams are over and try. Hope I still have my save games.

I’ve checked scores of old 3.5 floppies this morning, and I can’t find my Elite Plus saves.
Most annoying, as I’m sure that I wouldn’t have deleted them. Hey-Ho!

Yess!
Have found one save game. Most likely the last one, before I become Elite. Will check this out after exams and report back.

Well it's only on the screen for a few frames - but I found this video from the original BBC Elite (actually I think this is what you got if you played the BBC Master Version given the colour scheme and the date) - the Cougar!
