Reporting spam

I've now got moderator access to these boards. If you spot spam, tell me. There are still some pieces of spam buried in threads - I think I've got all the easy to see ones, but please tell me about the ones I've missed because I know I've not yet got them all.

I've also made Rxke and Murgh moderators since they seem to be around lots and have shown willing, so perhaps we can catch all the spam as a combined effort.

Mighten't it be easier if you use the members lists to find the names of the 'offenders' then search for every post they've made and do a broad sweep?

I'm currently looking into installing this addon which seems to be one of the more efficient anti spam tools.

I'll let you know how it goes if you're interested.

Oh, install the Userlist mod too, since that makes checking users far easier, especially if spammers are becoming common. I use it to clear about five spam accounts a day from TSOALR.

Lemme know if you need any more information.

@winston
What's your policy re: suspected spammer accounts?
I'm just asking because I mentioned in an earlier post, I said that after trawling a few pages of the member lists I saw a large number of suspect accounts. These had links to sites that advertised things like prescription drugs (viagra and hair loss reduction products?!?!) and sites that had been suspended by the servers.

Pretty sure these accounts have come about after Giles stepped back, because he was, I think, usually quick to delete insincere memberships made only to carry speculative URLs.

viruslinker scammer: https://bb.oolite.space/profile.php? ... ile&u=1137

Winston: not sure where to flag these... Either we keep this thread (or another, new one, called 'Spammer' ) to flag new instances, and you subscribe to it, so you get a notification everytime one is flagged for a swift errrr... kick out of the nearest airlock :D or do we rather P.M. you?

this is part of the problem that us small admins can't get at. a big admin needs to erase these lost souls..
