Something I'm working on to bring a little more colour into the game.

The livery is inspired by a German shipping company (example).

Stress test: 600 entities, of which about 530 are asteroids, on an i3 3GHz with an NVidia GeForce GTS 450. In this screenshot, 30fps at 1920x1080 on Extra Detail. I believe the bottleneck is on the i3 CPU.

Similar test with i3 internal graphics give 25FPS, but only 15FPS if I go outside of the asteroid field and look back to see all of them within the screen.

Unfortunately, that doesn't tell us a lot without knowing what the onboard graphics chip is, and how much system RAM it can access.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

HD4000 chip with 1GB assigned RAM and a 3 years old i3-3225 3.3GHz CPU.

Today's similar cheap-and-good one is the i3-4170 3.7GHz with HD4400 and ability to handle an UHD display without additional videocard (3840x2160@60Hz).

Combat between pirates and police inside an asteroid field.

This last one was taken one millisecond before the missile vaporized the Mamba.

awesome!

I remember I had a slightly "reduced" experience in one of the early Rescue station oxp with a pirate lurking in an asteroid field where I was looking for a blackbox.

More than 6000 credits for a salvaged Vortex. The first I defeated. Got lucky he ejected and the derelict was still there when I got back.
Dredgers allow for actually making money from bounty hunting instead of losing it to repairs.

Yes, a salvage missile in Deep Space Dredger is easier, moreover the fastest is launching a pylon mounted Tug Drone.

Just playing around with Spara's asteroid tweaks, and Corona_flare and corona_hues values:
Image

/e: forgot to mention it was a bit like flying through dense fog... quite spooky... Wondering if this could be used to make a sun flare/flicker randomly via an oxp.

Trivial; the corona values are writeable by JS and the rendering of the sun changes immediately if they are altered.
Any country that has the Thunderbirds March as its national anthem can't be too bad.
