After looking at that paint-job, I think I'd prefer the so-called 'wishy-washy pastels'. I'll stick with my custom paint-job.

Don't worry El Viejo - said OXP will have it's 30K+ variants available in traditional pastel for the more discerning pilot such as yourself or a more vibrant option for the boy racers who like to act as pirate bait

To be perfectly honest I'm quite new at this 3D modelling and texturing so don't really know anything about normalmaping and lightmaping, (yet), other than I have heard of the terms.

Having said that I am picking more and more up each day so this is another topic for me to get my heard around along with shaders and more complex scripting. :?
A 'lightmap' (or emission_map as it is correctly called) simply adds lights to the ship and is a much easier and more versatile way to do the things you are currently using flashers for, and more! Illuminated cockpits/portholes, external flood and spot lights, glows on heat-exchangers, engines etc.
An emission_map is simply a .png image file just like the 'texture' (diffuse_map), and is specified in the materials section of the shipdata.plist. These also don't require a shader-capable computer, so everyone can enjoy nicely illuminated ships etc.
Take a look at my Smivs'Shipset, or any of my ship OXPs to see how they work. It's very straightforward, and making them is explained in detail in my Texturing Tutorial on the Wiki.

Thanks for the info Smivs I’ll definitely have a look through your shipset and texturing tutorial to get my heard around emission maps and see how you have pulled everything together (I’ve a lot to learn but this oxp writing should come with a government health warning …..it’s very addictive). :D

The Coriolis/Dodo variants are Griff's work, the one with the sails is Thargoid's from Wildships.

All I've done is write a script to make it easy to tweak the values used by Griff's shaders to give the colour swashes in his ships.

Brilliant. Do you have that in 1920 x 1200 pixels?

Thanks guys,

Unfortunately my full screen resolution is only 1366 x 768 so that was the size of the original....which I didn't keep when I resized it for upload. I have got a couple that are similar (same ship, same station, slightly different positions) at 1366 x 768 if that is of any use?
