Help please No external view on my Super Cobra

Post by Cos »

Need a little help please, My Super cobra has no external views when I press "V". Is this normal (all the other ships seem to have it). If this can be put right I'd really appreciate the help. P.s keep it really simple computers are still somewhat of a mystery to me.

Many thanks

very easy. just copy the custom_view segment out of the shipdata of a ship that has the type of external views that you like, and paste it in the same way in the Supercobra's shipdata..

What Murgh of course means is that the SuperCobra XP was made before external views were implemented, and so doesn't have one as standard.

However, you can copy and paste the relevant code into the OXP from another OXP.

You will find that CTRL or right clicking on an OXP brings up an option "Open Package Contents" (or something). An OXP is a collection of files bundled together. One of the files is called shipdata.plist, which is a text XML list defining aspects of the ship.
It is here you will need to copy and paste the code from another OXP.

Enjoy! :lol:
You came in that? You're braver than I thought!

ps:

0: download a decent texteditor.
1: Open shipdata.plist in the oolite-config folder.
2: copy the custom views found under the entry Cobra3-player
3: open the shipdata in the supercobra.oxp folder
4: paste the copied custom-views at the bottom of the list, just above the lines:

Code: Select all

</dict>
</plist>
Don't forget to save as shipdata.plist

Hi thanks very much for the quick response, well I tried what you suggested and unfortunately I couldn't get it to work, never mind I sold her and got myself a Cobra Courier SE.

Cheers

I managed to do it, so it can't be that difficult. I can send you my copy of shipdata, if I clod contact you directly. I did reduce the manouverability of mine a bit, as I found it too twictchy so you might want to change that back.

it's really easy using a proper text editor, but maybe it does require a brief schooling session at the Wiki.. ;)

if it's desirable for the older OXPs, we could gather up any modernized plists in demand and I could upload them to be available next to the original OXP at Oosat..

is there keenness for this?

It might be less work to just "fix" the ship that you normally fly to have 8 energy banks etc. than to add those external views from another ship... :wink:

I seem to be having the same problem with the Cobra mk. 3 in my new save file. I am sure I have version 1.65 so I can see no possible reason for why it doesn't work, has anyone else encountered this problem with the built-in ships?
