Many moons ago, Commander McLane started this thread on special events and varying the in-game economy, which in turn came out of discussions on dynamic universes and MMORPGs. Years later, while working on a new mission OXP I happened to stumble onto the issue of commodity pricing, and thought I'd try implementing some of the ideas.

This OXP generates random events that impact on commodity prices. With this as the main focus, from a presentation point of view I've re-packaged the OXP from a general special events script to more of a financial news service. Following in the wake of Snoopers, Rooters and The Tionisla Chronicle, BlOomberg Markets has gone galactic!

Incidentally, I built up some price calculation spreadsheets to help me work out some reasonable commodity settings. This graph might be of interest - it attempts to show the average price per commodity per economy type (by average I mean the average of the minimum and maximum possible values). I think the strange behavour of Narcotics is a result of a rollover, where the minimum drops below zero and so tends to put the average up (there's more discussion in this thread). Just a small (and annoying) point here, it's spelled the same way as the real bloomberg isn't it? One capital letter here or there won't change too much..

BOomberg would be quite apt - and it would only involve removing an 'L'!

In any case, all the technical bits of the OXP use references to 'Special Event' and 'SE' so the punning title is just the icing on the cake.
