[UPDATED RELEASE] Trident Down

Post by Ramirez »

This is a mission OXP I've been working on for a while, in fact I've had it in mind ever since I finished the Executive SpaceWays ships. The mission sees you being hired to investigate the disappearance of a Trident shuttle in Galaxy 4. This is just the opening part - I'm currently working on the next stage but it would be good to get any feedback on the mission so far - particularly on things like the pacing and whether the story is actually interesting!

Trident Down v0.1

See the readme for installation details - a handful of other OXPs need to be in place for everything to run correctly.

Also, I've made some updates to the Missiles and Bombs pack I made back in February - if people would like these made more widely available I'll make a page on the Wiki setting out all the details.

I am playing through your missions and have come up on a problem..

On the way down to Dicebe (not there yet) and the whole application quits when I dock at any station...

If I take the Trident OXP out of the Add Ons folder it doesn't happen...

I have the error report if you want to read it...

Help.

That's strange - PM me with the error report and details of where you are in the mission and I'll check it out.

Not necessarily, console reports can run on quite a bit, particularly if you've been playing a while.

Trident Down - an update

Post by Ramirez »

Still working on this mission - it's come quite a way since the last version I posted but I've made life a bit difficult for myself by creating so many branching options. I have at least six different story threads that need to be sorted out, and as I go along I keep thinking of other ideas to help make sure each they're all interesting and challenging enough. Ideally I'd like to have each one in place before releasing the next version just so that the whole thing hangs together properly. Add to that the creation of new models, textures and images, and it makes for quite a challenge!

Of course I don't want to give too much of the plot away, but depending on the options you choose, you may be called upon to undertake missions involving stop and search, rescue, assassination (with some cunning twists), sabotage and even some public relations work. Throw in a scene at the casino and you have the makings of a perfect thriller!

Casino? Sabotage? Search and Rescue? Sounds like a James BOond movie...

It's getting there...slowly! One of the plot threads now calls for some kind of comms / early warning satellite. I've built a basic model but wondered if anyone would like to have a go at texturing it, or maybe developing the model even further?

I'll probably be defending it with the minesweepers and guard droids from Assassins (if that's OK, LittleBear), so something in a similar style would be good. If anyone's interested, PM me.

At this rate I think I might just put the OXP out in its latest form and add the remaining parts later - summer's on the way and I don't want to spend too many sunny weekends toiling away at plists!

Wow that looks good even without a text! 8) Help yourself to the sentry bots and minesweepers. The sweepers have a pretty basic text though, just metal with some hatchings.

Could I pinch your Big Missile for the Graviton Missile in Assassins? Its a missile that the player can only get once if he does various missions and explores a wreaked station on foot and finds it. ATM its a nuke in terms of its stats but just uses the normal missile model. (Special Warhead)!
OXPS : The Assassins Guild, Asteroid Storm, The Bank of the Black Monks, Random Hits, The Galactic Almanac, Renegade Pirates can be downloaded from the Elite Wiki here.

Right, here's the latest incarnation of the mission set:

Trident Down v0.2

I've put in some locks to prevent players from reaching the areas still in progress (which includes the satellite bit above) but there should be enough there for people to be getting on with. I never did manage to identify Blunderbuss' crash problem so do let me know if you run into any issues.

Grab what you need from Missiles and Bombs, LittleBear. I've re-used a few of the weapon casings myself to save having to create new models all the time.
