Modding Teorge with a mission in mind?

Post by DaddyHoggy »

Ok, as most of you know - I'm pretty new to all of this (but was lucky to latch on to Doc's excellent "AD-X" campaign just as it kicked off), I've spent more time reading the BBs than playing the game but there's a few things I haven't found yet so perhaps some of the "old timers" could help me out...

Has anybody modded Teorge? So that it's more inline with the bible, sorry, I mean The Dark Wheel. i.e. Inhabitants are human clones.

What I'm thinking I'd like to do (having not actually even looked inside an oxp yet!) is the following:

Mod Teorge so that it's an isolationist system populated by human clones. Change its govt. to Corporate State (lots of Police - but not Galcop Vipers) - post a big sign at the Witchpoint beacon and Station Nav beacon using Doc's yaw.oxp as the basis. i.e. Image

If possible I would have the mod change your legal staus so that if you jumped into Teorge space you would immediately be classed as an 'Offender' and thus be attacked by Teorge's Police force.

Is this possible to do?

If yes then perhaps a mission to take a passenger and/or cargo to Teorge (from a system some distance away) that would grant you permission to visit Teorge for this and subsequent trips - perhaps make the payment of the original mission quite small but have Teorge sell one of its commodities a reasonable amount under the norm for the market (is this possible?) and thus make several cargo hauling trips reap a large reward (introduce a counter that means on x-repeat trip price has gone up to stop you doing it too much - is this possible?)

Perhaps during the mission you could be attacked by pirates/bounty hunters after your desirable passenger/cargo (borrowing from TDW but also I think the Thargon Mission on the (Amiga?) version of the original.

So, is this worth doing do you think?

Is any, some, all of this possible? Easy or Tricky?

Apologies if I'm going over old ground but there are a LOT of posts and I'd like to play as well as read.

Thanks.

Most of it is dooable.

http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Planetinfo.plist

This gives you info on modding the system, you can change govt type, planet colours, description etc. A good place to start your OXP, get used to plists etc.

http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Script.plist

The first time you reach the system you can set a script action to set legal status. You could also spawn all the extra cop ships here. This is where you can script most of the magic.

http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Commodities.plist

You can also set prices here, look for the MARKET_BASE_PRICE and adjust that first, it's the easiest to understand. Changing the price according to action is trickier, not sure how that would work.

Have a look here for ideas on when to trigger a mission, and also have a look at Oosat and Oosat2.

@DaddyHoggy:

Glad to hear that you consider OXP'ing

The links provided by johnsmith together with browsing the files in other OXPs (the Vim editor is a good tool for that - and for writing your own) should tell you what you need to get started. And if you get stuck, you can probably get some help in here.

The first step could be to rid the planet of bony blue lobsters and populate it with human clones, which is done by creating and editing .../Oolite/AddOns/Teorge.oxp/Config/planetinfo.plist

Just thought you'll need to find the planet number for your OXP. In the galaxy view screen type ! and a galaxy map and list of planets should appear next to your Oolite app.

I put it into an Excel spreadsheet many moons ago, so that I could sort each galaxy into whatever order I wanted, very useful for listing Hi tech planets etc, also it was very intersting to see the planet descriptions sorted into order. (oops am I getting a bit nerdy? - Don't answer that.)

@Everybody!

Fantastic response guys - thanks for all the comments, suggestions and feedback. I intend to have a go at some of this over Christmas (yeh yeh I know it'll never happen!)

I will keep posting crazy ideas that are way beyond my skill level as long as people keep reading them and telling me I'm doing ok... :)
