- Me again -

New .oxp's

Asteroids.oxp - Nicer? asteroids for Oolite.
Plannets.oxp - You guessed it.

The scripts for both are quite crude. ( just to get them to work )
Both were parts of a larger .oxp I'm getting bored with developing.

- Find them in the 'Stuff' folder @ the link below -

BlackHole.oxp - on the way...
A more complex affair with a few interesting features - if I can get the 3D engine to make something that big.
- Wormhole travel - if you're brave enough.
- A new race of spacefaring creatures - rumors abound, what do they want?

Then I'm back to doing ships - less effort for faster results.

Wow that's a serieriously large number of extra planets! 8)

Like the random apperance for varierty, but maybe could script them at 20 odd systems to they were rarer. Some bigger and further out. Only problem with the ramdom appearance is often they are overlaping each other. Maybe some stations near them too?

Adding a description to the F7 screen is real easy (to help the player go sightseeing. Just need a "setSpecificPlanetInfo: G=PN=description=The planet Orreedon is famous for its strange mountains and well known for its moon XXX", (G=galaxy no & PN = planetnumber.)

Thanks for the feedback.

The randomness is just because I'm lazy - it's easier than coding for specific systems. I'll get on it...

Thanks for the info - as you may have noted they have all got names, but I didn't know how to get the game to recognise. I'll get on it...

Oops, some overlapping? Bugger - thought I'd got it right. My brain tells me I understand the coordinates system but facts tell otherwise. I'll get on it...

Did you like the asteroids? Some are modeled on real ones.

BlackHole.oxp should be quite hoopy ;)
I think my scripting is JUST about up to the idea.
-BlackHoles - duh! - ( if I can't get BIG ones I'll make up a stupid tale to explain it )
-Wormhole travel - ( not tested yet, so fingers crossed )
-New race of creatures - are they friendly, evil, or jut a pain in the doo-dah?

Then I'll probably leave the clever stuff up to you. 8)

So... I'll get on it.

Great! I look forward to playing with these. The new filesizes for the ships also look promising for us with the older hardware :D

Only just got round to checking out the asteroids. Very nice indeed!

If you don't plan to use them yourself in a mission, do you mind if I pinch them. Someone recetley suggested implementing the Asteroid Storm mission that was native in old Arch Elite. (The station is peleted with incoming asteroids that will eventually destroy it, so the player is scambled and has to shoot them down, with a bit of help from the police).

With your nice asteroids it would be very easy to script. It just need to give them a top speed (say 0.2lm) and give them missileAI with their target as the station. Give each one a death_action that increases a counter (I know how many I added so when the counter reaches the number added Oolite will know the storm is over and if the player now docks, he gets a well done briefing and a small reward).

Unless you facy doing this yourself.

Be my guest - I'd be more than happy if either the plannets or asteroids were used by others.

I did both to be part of a larger .oxp I'm very unlikely to release, but put them out ( with very crude scripts ) in case they were of use to others.

Once I've hopefully got this blackhole.oxp to work I'll go back to doing ships...

( I'm too lazy & too inexperienced with scripting @ the moment to get much fun out of 'clever' .oxp's but this .oxp should hopefully be worth it )

P.S.
If the asteroid-storm.oxp goes well, how about an 'end-of-the-world'.oxp?
Whole plannets crashing into each other. Plannets crashing into the sun, sun going nova - the works...
I don't know if that can be done with 'addmoon:', but I could re-do the textures to wrap round a big sphere.
Sadly, I think Oolite must have a limmit on model size as that has been my main problem with the blackhole - looks like I'll have to reduce the size ( bah! ) or chop it into lots of sub-entities...

Well there is already a Nova mission built in, however the end of the world mission would be cool, escape through a black hole to a parallell universe, find the antidote, blow up an asteroid, kill lucifer, etc, etc, and all in 24 hours a la Flash Gordon.

Quick Update

Falcon.oxp has had some further tweaking - see how many bits you can shoot off. :D

Orb.oxp has been moved to the 'Old' folder in preparation for an upcoming release...

It's gonna be good!
If I ever get it to work.

- Updates Updates Updates -

Yes, once again your favorite purveyor of fast ships has been hard at work on it's customers' behalf.

Who else would try out wholly untested products out on the public?
Benulobiweed.inc

Why?
'Because we care.' (tm)

Falcon
Kestrel
Merlin
Swift
Pallas
Condor.

All are newer, shinier, available in more outlets, and go with a bigger bang than ever before!!
( We may even do you a better deal - if you ask nicely )

Please remember we are proud to say that we have no intention of ever honouring a warranty claim.
What other manufacturer would dare to say as much?

Should you run into any problems, it is almost certainly your error, but we will be happy to accept any suggestions with regard to future improvements.

What Craft

Review of a 'mysterious' new ship.
by:
'I can't remember my name'

Just after our last deadline we receved a boxed
model of a new ship.

Image
Boxed Model

It contained the message:
'For the discerning captain with taste who thinks a
Fer-De-Lance is bleedin' old.'
Our interest well and truly peaked ( though it's
hard to see to whom the strap-line will appeal )
we awaited developments.

The following day a ship was delivered to our offices
by a man who I would best describe as 'beardy'. The
chap expressed the hope that we would be careful as
it 'belonged to him' and he had heard 'rumors about
us transport hacks'.

Image
The New Ship

Well, I duly took it out for a spin with a few camera
ships in escort. From what little I remember it struck
me as being bloody quick, well specced, with plenty
of cabin space for a ship of its size. Weapon capability
remains hard to judge.

Image
On Full Injectors

The reason for my final comment ( and the reason
I still can't remember my name ) is while hooning
around in the name testing my collegues tell me one
of the camera ships shot up the rear end a bit too
much and there was a 'bloody big explosion'.

Image
Bloody Big Explosion

The only survivors were myself ( in the remaining
front portion of the test craft ) and the lead camera
ship, which took the time to line up for the above
shot before rescuing me ( unconscious ) from the
wreckage. ( The bastards )

We await future developments with interest, though
the 'beardy man' did not seem too impressed when
he collected the remaining half of the test craft.

The What Craft team hopes our reporter will make
a full recovery in time.
Having to surgically remove the remainder of this
review from his addled brain is quite an expensive
procedure.

It looks really good.

I hope we will see an ad for the Firefly soon (picked up a hint on the prototype name from an industrial spy ;))

That's got to be made in a poster for Doc's next release of the yaw.oxp! :)

 I sort of did already, though perhaps not quite in the way one would expect.

Thats what they get when someone offers to do advertising for them in the 'tried and tested' way :)
