VimanaHUD OXP

Post by Gnievmir »

Hello everyone.

Sorry for my English. I don't know this language very well so please be forgiving.
This is my first post, so I want to thank everyone involved in the development of this game. Good job!

There are many HUDs in the game repository, but none met my expectations so I created my own.
Since it was created, I would like to share it with other Oolite users. Maybe someone will like it and will want to use it.

The appearance and functions of the HUD are shown on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4rl1Nhw3uE

requires oxp:
  • CombatMFD
  • NavigationMFD
  • ShieldEqualizer+Capacitors
  • SniperLock
  • RepairBots
  • MissileAnalyser
  • missile-beep
  • LMSS
  • IronHide
  • AutoCrosshairs
incompatible:
  • ShieldCycler
  • ShieldCyclerNext
  • alerting_crosshairs
  • LaserificCrosshairs
  • ShieldtasticCrosshairs
  • Targeter (Target Filtering System - TFSys is my Targeter modification.)
OXP redefines some of the player's ship parameters. If you prefer standard game settings - delete the file "shipdata.plist" from the "Config" directory.
Then, however, you will not be able to use the "Self Repair System" (RepairBots) in ASP (requires 2t of freight space).

A very good entrance - welcome aboard, Commander!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

That’s a really impressive UI! The dials and ship status indicator look especially good. I had no idea that was even possible. Thank you, welcome, and I hope you enjoy your stay!

Welcome Gnievmir!

I had an idea to do something less sophisticated with target image display but hadn't found time to try (it will be interesting to see if you used a similar method). Having said that, some of the other things on the HUD in your video go way beyond my capabilities...

Looks great! I think I might have a new favourite HUD :D

Just a few notes on this one:

There are special warning signs for the following - which flash up on the screen:
- Low altitude, Low energy, Incoming missile, Low shield, High temperatures

There are special warning lights on the console for the following:
- Low Quirium Fuel (ie not enough for the next destination)
- Maintenance needed

There are extra green equipment lights - which glow red if damaged - for the following:
- ECM
- Extra Energy Unit
- Fuel Injectors
- Invisible Cloaking Device
- Laser Mount Switching System + Laser Mount Switching System Actuator (I think)
- Shield Cycler
- Self-repair system (with updater for charges being used and those yet unused)
- Anti-missile system updater giving number of unused darts (I think!)
- Lights for either fore/aft shields or something to do with a telescope (I'll edit this if I ever find out!)

• The extra 2t of freight space and extra 2 missile pylons appear on the Windows-flown spacecraft, not in my AppleMac contraptions.

• It adds in the following goodies to the F3 ship equip listings which seem to be unaffected by the local Technology Level:
- Travel Module (1,000cr) shows multiple witchspace destinations
- Ship Module (1,5000cr) shows damage status of ship
- Target Module (2,5000cr) shows combat information with a nice icon of most of the probable targets
- Vimana Beam Laser (15,000cr) a cool-running military-style laser with only 25km range
- TFSystem (Target Filtering System: 3,100cr): selects class of target: hostile, police, thargoid, neutral, asteroid etc

With the author consent, I'm maintaining this impressive OXP (though it will be some time till I'm up to speed on it)

I uploaded it OXP to the wiki and created a manifest in oolite.org, so now it's available on the Expansion Manager.

Would have loved to install this HUD (since dybal praised it to the skies :) )

Sadly, though, it requires so many extra elements which I know I am never going to need (or want) that I had to abort the download :(

It would be wonderful, therefore, if you could release a 'lite' version for us poor Space Grocers who avoid fights at all costs ;)

Call it the Trader version, maybe...

Is that doable?

Or is there a way I can modify it so as not to require all the bells and whistles?
Dor 'call me Grocer' Reval (a Xexedian Laver) was always considered a little backward.

VimanaHUD v2.06-beta is available for download here

Changes:
  • Fixes Repair System worldScript name.
  • Makes HUD compatible with HUD Selector.
  • Updates for compatibility with Repair Bots 2.14.
  • Updates for compatibility with Shield Equalizer and Capacitors v1.6+.
  • Updates for compatibility with SniperLock Plus (unpublished yet)
  • Changes Repair Bots, Shield Equalizer and Capacitos, SniperLock, Missile Analyser, Missile Beep, LMSS, Iron Hide and Auto Crosshairs from required to optional.
  • Makes it compatible with Shield Cycler Next v2.0+.
  • Disables the overriding of ship characteristics - plan to move it to a separated, complementary OXP.
I'm publishing this as a beta, outside the Expansion Manager, since I don't use VimanaHUD regularly and might not notice something not working. Please let me know of any problems.

My Apple-Mac version of Oolite v.1.90 is saying that the Beta does not have a valid manifest.plist and cannot be loaded.

I had similar messages after I tweaked other oxz's and eventually had to transmogrify them back to oxp's to get them to work! I will fiddle and let you know.
