weird balance - look's like nobody uses all four lasers and instead people use different oxp-uber-mega-weapons
hundreds of imbalanced oxp's
Pixel aiming plus powerful uber-weapons
To me the biggest mistake that was made, was laser usage. Newcomers are difficult to learn laser, especially left and right, so the lot's of imbalanced oxp-weapons is the obvious, natural consequence.
Competition rules:-
Entrants have seven days from the time of this post to upload a new, previously unpublished OXP.
The OXP must contain a player-purchasable equipment item.
The equipment must be a weapon, with no regard given to issues of game balance or similar wowserism.
In the spirit of fairness to complainers:
An OXP that when installed give the commander a key choice that if he selects : ALL oxps installed are immediately removed. Make sure the key choice is by the most common used key on keyboard so accidents can happen when in a fight or docking.
has anyone done a railgun oxp??? ultra dense handwavium in a steel casing projected at near light speed.. more impact than a Mil Laser..... requires an extra energy bank to use....
replace a missile with it and maybe also be able to buy an automatic ammo maker to take a second slot.... need mineral splinters etc to build.... similar to the auto missile maker..
just an idea...
Arthur: OK. Leave this to me. I'm British. I know how to queue.
OR i could go with
Arthur Dent: I always said there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe.

Well with CML's Killit OXP it all becomes pointless as nothing can out uber that one.
No, nothing can "out-uber" simply popping up a message that says, "Your killit super-weapon destroyed the whole universe, game over." That, however, does not really provide many game-play opportunities. Let's assume then that my goal when making the OP was not to see whether anyone could out-uber killit.
Well, I've got my entry in. What I learned: exploding stations makes piddly, little explosions no bigger than exploding anything else. I say that's a flaw in Oolite, but is destroying stations a reasonable enough thing (I've always said it ought to be impossible) that it should be addressed in core, or is there a place for a Big Explosions OXP?
1.) Y'all have 24 hours left to get your entries in, or I win.
2.) Who's doing next week's competition?
3.) Station Self-Destruction Codes downloaded 58 times. Lunatics! What's the matter with you people?
4.) If anyone would like to adopt this and develop it into a serious OXP:
- version 1.1, set the tech level and add a condition script to control when it's offered to the player. Currently, it's offered everywhere.
- version 1.2, bigger explosions! Talk to Smivs, apparently.
I swear I have made a station throws sparks before. And even destroyed it...I swear.
Rock hermits are easily destroyed, but main stations should be* impossible to damage with normal weapons. OXP stations fall somewhere in between.
* Go back a couple of years in the Griff's Ships thread and there's an image of when I shot a panel off a main station and left it with a hole you could see straight through to the other side.
The other thing my self-destruct OXP needs is to fine the player for actually using it. Currently it doesn't even register as a crime, whereas it should show a message saying, "You have been charged with 10,241 counts of murder, please pay a fine at the nearest GalCop station."
To make it throw sparks I just used the plasma turrects on my Wonder worm for like 5 minutes until I gave up. To destroy it.......
Does anyone remember when I said I crashed into the sun a torus drive speed? I was going so fast that even once I massed locked and strated to slow down it still fast enough to crash into the sun.
So I tried something in October last year...
Running a slow computer oolite is prone to miscalculations because it dosn't have enough memory to fully process it before it appears on screen...so unfortunatly cannot guarrente this would work on your computer.
I launch from the main station and head for the sun. I stop when I have traveled at torus drive speed for 10 seconds...and turn back. I see the glint of the rotating station. I put it in my cross hairs. And pressed j.
When the talking compass says 5 seconds till station (you have to press / quickly) then you eject. If the wonder worm flys true then...you should see a big explosion in the distance. This was ages ago so I forgot some details. Probably.
