RELEASE - ZZ_GrOovy_BBS_MiLHUD - TEST 2

Post by dertien »

*** Z-GrOovY paintshed (Ze Griff's Ooniversal vinYl paintshed) presents ***

Z GrOovy BBS MiLHUD Hud{0.92} BETA 27Dec-2013

*** Foreword & credits ***

I needed some time off shipbuilding, so I built this.
This hud has been built upon the openstep version of MilHUD 4.0 by Wyvern - Based on GenericHUD by KW and Thargoid, and MilHUD 3.1 by Wyvern. There are a lot of additions, but the core of this is MilHUD 4.0.
It is recommended to use at least version 1.77.1 of Oolite.
This hud uses an ammended version of the HUD Vanisher by Wildeblood, so the hud will not hide the primeable equipment screens nor the F5-F11 screens. Only with the internal views (F1, F2, F3 and F4) will the hud be visible in space.
ZZ_GUI_Vanisher_1.0.oxp is a seperate oxp since it would not trigger when merged with the hud. All credit for making the script goes to Wildeblood. I just changed some values so it would work for the ZZ Hud.

Icons are courtesy of: WPZOOM; (http://www.wpzoom.com/wpzoom/new-freebi ... ree-icons/) license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ found here: https://www.iconfinder.com/free_icons
and the missile icon is by Keyamoon (changed color): license: Creative Commons (Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported)

This hud has been tested in fullscreen mode, not in a window, it is also a test version, therefore there might be bugs or logs.
@ PaGroove : Should work on the Mac also now. Feedback always welcome.

I hope I have not forgotten anyone.

*** Specifics ****

This hud will work with all resolutions (widescreen and regular.)
Minimum resolution for legibility is 1024 * 768
Resolutions 1280 x 600 and 1280 x 700 NOT supported; sorry...

In the Images folder (ZZ_GrOovy_MilHUD-v0.9.oxp\Images) there are alternative files should you find the colored huds too painful on they eye, since they have lots of contrast.
The hud images are called, hudred-lowcontrast.png, hudyellow-lowcontrast.png, and hudgreen-lowcontrast.png, should you want to change them out, delete the -lowcontrast bit after deleting the high contrast originals.

This hud will work with all ships, the telescope remains where it is at the moment, up there where it belongs.

Have fun!

*** Installation ***

Delete all previous versions since this one might have a different name, then install this one.

The hud contains just a few icons. Instead the icons have been replaced by abbreviated words that everybody (playing Oolite or not) should understand.

For those of you who liked the "contraster ring in the middle" from the original Milhud, uncomment the // contraster in the hud.plists files "milhudred.plist" and "milhudyellow.plist"

From:

//{ // contraster
// image = "contraster.png";
// x = 0;
// y = 0;
// height = 182;
// width = 182;
// alpha = 0.30;
//},

to:

{ // contraster
image = "contraster.png";
x = 0;
y = 0;
height = 182;
width = 182;
alpha = 0.30;
},

- So what does this do ?

This hud attempts to put everything at its place, providing the required information for the required alert level.
The moving white pips in the middle of the crosshairs are the roll and pitch indicators. Try to use them to align your shot since you will fly a straight line when they are overlapping
each other. The yaw indicator is not used.

Try to stay out of "Critical level", cause you will be getting something very basic, as it should be. Functions might still be there, but you will no longer get visual feedback. (scanner is disabled when critical, as are a lot of other instruments). Some basic instruments will work, or work half.

The middle of the hud contains a few icons when you have purchased the right equipment. Here's a list (see screenshot too earlier)

- Nanobots (self repair, not the bots themselves)(red or blue icon) - bug icon
- cargospotter (green binoculars icon underneath the crosshairs
- missile spoof (small rocket icon green or red depending on installed or not)
- the word IFF (installed the IFF police scanner upgrade ? ) the word IFF will show above the hud.
- Purchasing the ore processor also shows up on the hud (2 gears icon top left) - not shown because not purchased in screenshot.

Supported OXP's (not required, but you're missing out if not installed)

-AI Trading Assistant 2.8.1.oxp
-BountyScannerv2.0.oxp
-Cargo Spotter 1.01.oxp
-Dock_Assist_System1.3.oxp
-GalaxyInfo.oxp
-market_inquirer_1.6.oxp
-Military Fuel Injectors 1.03.oxp
-ore_processor_2.0.oxp
-missile_spoof.oxp
-Naval Grid 1.00.oxp
-PlanetFall 1.51.oxp (Planetary Landing)
-Police_Scanner_Upgrade_1.3.1_2011-12-18.oxp
-RepairBots 2.09.oxp

*** Dependables/Requirements ***

Some very original thinking there.. especially combining the ASC, pitch/roll and crosshairs.. (must admit I'm not sure how I feel about that) I'll definitely have to give it a shot.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Thank you,

well the idea was to put some other stuff in the hud as well, like the excellent equipment oxp's made by the commoonity for trading, mining and the bounty hunting, a bit like it is now, since they are lined up for trading, mining and hunting. Problem was that I got serious framerate hits, since every little icon needs to get loaded in, shame, otherwise I would have put in the lot like Market assistant, bounty scanner, planetfall, ore processor etc... And then it would have been kinda complete.

Pun intended I'm sure :D

Well, I tested different locations for the compass trying to get the hud as ergonomic and compact as possible, and the idea of the pitch/roll crosshairs line up thing came to light during a testing phase. It's also a logical choice, since your compass tells you where the nose of your ship should be going...Just had a few ideas where I wanted to put the compass, and chose the best one after a little gameplay comparison. Then indeed this is really something you should try out, even with very small ships (like a mamba or a sidewinder) coming at you strait on. It's bliss, (even without the extra tracking you get from telescope when you press the R key twice), and it doesn't feel like cheating, because it requires a bit of skill. You line up both the pitch and roll pippers in the middle, over your target and keep it there, wait for the red confirmation pipper and fire, it gets addictive. Maybe an incentive for a Pirate's Oolife. I also use Comonsensotb's shields. A must have immersion together with telescope. It gives the NPC's colored shields, and you see when you hit (or get hit), and what it does; shield of hull damage.
Be sure to grab them both, and tell me what you think in combination with this hud.

I tested it (on a macbook pro) but I don't see the hud. Switching shaders on/off doesn't help. Is buying a Telescope mandatory for seeing the hud? I de-installed the guy-vanisher because I thought that that was the cause of not seeing the hud.
Any clue's? Because I really want to test this one out.

Meanwhile I switched back to my beloved CRR-Hud.

Its no shader issue since this hud doesn't use any.
Buying the Telescope is not mandatory, let alone having it in your addons folder. I just have the hud, the adder and the gui vanisher active now, on a virgin install, and it works fine.
Even just the hud without any other stuff should work fine.

What version of Oolite are you running it on (1.77.1 is the version I am running it on) however I cannot access it on a Mac since I don't own one :( ?

Does Milhud 4 work for you ? could you please test that out ? heres a link to the page: http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/MilSpec_HUD_OXP

Don't presume it's a high and lowercase extension problem now, or do Macs need an extra file in there ?

I use Trunk 1.79 development version. And with SHIFT pressed at startup.

Hm that's strange, it's this version is it ?

Image

Shows up well here, although ,my ships dont show up as they should in 1.79.

This is the hud functioning in 1.79 without any of the other addons.Can you delete the script.js file in the scripts folder of the Milhud.oxp and see if that does it ?

Using the current trunk, 1.79.0.5484-131224-65f3e2e.
1.73GHz dual core CPU, 2GB RAM, ATI/AMD MobilityX2300 GPU, Linux Mint15.

It works.. as in, yes, I can see it..

Unfortunately, it totally kills my framerate. Down from my usual 50 FPS all the way to 5-11 FPS, averaging 8 FPS. Also makes the sound (BGS Aegis chatter) very choppy and slooooowww....

Sorry mate, it looks like that HUD needs a lot of horsepower to run.

Current trunk, can see the HUD but the slowdown on exiting the station is immense, nearly hangs my game. Once launched, I can play. Didn't check the framerate, though.

Yes I must confess that I do have that horsepower :oops:

Will see if I can create a hud that keeps the main functionality of the hud without killing that framerate, I may just know how. Gonna take some time to make it, but yes definitely worth it.

Happens here too, but solid 60 FPS once its loaded and stays that way:
