[RELEASE] Arachnid Mark 1

Post by Shipbuilder »

The GalTech Industries Corporation proudly announces the release of the Arachnid Mark 1 general purpose vessel (Available as both a player and NPC ship). This ship is the fourth in a series of original concept vessels planned for release over the coming months.

The Arachnid Mark 1 is the GalTech Industries Corporation’s answer to Cowell & MgRath’s phenomenally popular Cobra Mark 3. Produced at the shipyards in the Ceesxe, Gerete and Edle systems, and also under license at many other facilities throughout the 8 galaxies, the ship is becoming a popular choice for both traders and bounty hunters.

Invariably the ship has also found its way in to the hands of many unscrupulous privateers wishing to combine good combat capabilities with a craft able of transporting a reasonable amount of cargo.

Designed as a general purpose craft, the intention is to allow the owner to reconfigure the ship to suit their own individual requirements. As a result this craft is equally suitable for combat, trading and passenger transport as well as being capable of carrying out some of the smaller cargo contracts.

Early prototypes suffered from a poorly performing propulsion drive however this initial setback has now been overcome giving the Arachnid Mark 1 a slight advantage over the Cobra Mark 3 in terms of both speed and manoeuvrability. The profile of the craft is also approximately 80% that of the Cobra Mark 3 therefore making the ship a more difficult target to hit.

The downside to this improvement in performance and reduced size however is less internal space meaning that the maximum extended cargo capacity is 30T rather than the Cobra Mark 3’s 35T and that the maximum number of missiles is limited to 2.

In summary the Arachnid Mark 1 is very closely matched in comparison to the Cobra Mark 3 and the choice between the two appears to depend on the potential buyer’s preference for cargo transportation or combat.

I'm obviously a little rusty..... I just tried to add this OXP to the OXP list using the following code but I'm doing something wrong as I get a message stating that the page does not exist.

I have definitely created a page as can be seen by following the link in my signature strip.

I'm probably missing something very obvious, (Long day), but can someone advise what I am doing wrong ?

Code: Select all

{{OXPSortableTableRow
|cat=Ships
|desc=[[Arachnid Mark 1]], A multi purpose Elite style vessel similar to a Cobra Mark 3. Both NPC and player.
|aut=[[User:Shipbuilder|Shipbuilder]]
|date=2013-10-07
|work=Y}}

That page seems to be "Wikipedia:Arachnid Mark 1" instead of "Arachnid Mark 1".

And the ship is stunning. 8)

It is a beautiful ship indeed, but I seem to get a chevron of black in the front view , right where the target reticle is and I cannot see through it nor fire through it. I will remove it and re download it to see if it works more effectively :D

Hmm strange as I have been play testing this ship for a while without any issues. is there any chance you could post a screenshot ?

I'll download it myself to see what exactly the problems is.

Perhaps it got corrupted when I uploaded it. In any event I'll have a look at this and get it sorted out.

thanks for letting me know.

All very strange.

I just downloaded the OXP from the box account and installed it and all is working fine i.e. no sign of a black chevron in the front view.

If someone is able to post a screenshot of the front view with the black chevron it may help but at the moment I can’t find anything wrong.

See below a front view screenshot as seen this morning using the box download.

This looks like the view is from slightly inside the model though why I don't have the same problem I don't know. I can have a go at altering the forward view position by altering the following code.

Code: Select all

view_position_forward = "0.0 7.0 16.0";
By increasing the 3rd value currently 16 the view should move outside the ship. The problem is that I don't see this problem so don't know how much to increase the 16 value by.

Would someone who has had this problem be able to try altering the above code in the shipdata.plist and let me know ? Alternatively I can play around with the OXP if someone experiencing a problem can check it.

I can then upload a updated version of the OXP.

Also does anyone know why some are experiencing a problem with the forward view and others are not ?

This seems to work: view_position_forward = "0.0 7.0 35.0"; - I edged it up in stages. Some interesting ordnance you have there, btw.

Maybe use different screen ratio. Try change it in windowed mode (F12), for example the forward gun of Griff Cobra MkIII appear if set the window too narrow.
Update: At me the 16:9 ratio need at least 33 and 4:3 ratio need 34 in view_position_forward, so I still do not know why 16 is good at you.

@ Cody - Thanks for checking that out I'll update it and issue a updated version later today.

@ Norby - Perhaps this was the issue though I did run it using the F12 full screen view on my machine.

My screen res is 1280x1024, btw. That ordnance is a little too cheap, methinks.
