Ho0py Casinos and Longshot Encounter

Post by Parkingtigers »

Hi there.

Was visiting a Ho0Py Casino last night, playing with the 1.69 test build on a Mac. Big oresian (?) trader ship is pulling away from it slowly, then out flies a Longshot that flies straight forwards for 10 seconds before crashing straight into the trader's backside. Fun to see, and I wish I had some fuel scoops to take advantage, but obviously not great AI. No idea if it was the ships, the casino, or the core AI.

Also, after leaving the casino on one of many visits (selling gems and buying furs), I disembarked straight into a Witchspace portal thing. It would be nice if ships were made to move further away from the casino before being able to hyperspace out, I ended up in another system without any warning at all. It was actually pretty cool in a way, but still.

Cheers.

Just a traffic accident. For their good I do hope their insurance was up-to-date, or the cops are going to eat the suvivors alive (depending on the system, that may have a literal meaning).

It is known to have happened before, and explains how some end up unwittingly on low tech anarchies.
The problem is that some pilots forget the traffic laws (or just disobey them), specifically the one that says "no hyperspacing while aligned with a docking port".
Since the Hoopys' dock is on the bow and the crews (not to mention the thrusters) are minimal, it may happen that it runs into an HS cloud from a customer before they can change course. Also, there are known cases of pirates hijacking them by hyperspacung right in front of them, further reducing the time available for evasive manoeuvres.
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

God that's good. You know, sometimes an intelligent explanation is so much more satisying than a coding fix. And let's face it, ending up in a dangerous system *by accident* without enough fuel to jump out ... well that is comedy gold.

Just bit of roleplaying, but that's what makes Oolite so much fun: you aren't limited to just flying around and carrying out missions, you can use your imagination to create a persona and be a part of a dynamic universe where (as in Real Life(TM)), shit happens, and sometimes even hits the fan.
