Re: Law: Legal Consequences

Quite agree! But can we get Oolite to do it? Do we have sufficient shades of grey when applying the purple police colouration to ships on the scanner? I think part of the point has been missed. Oolite simply does whatever the OXP tells it to, there is nothing stopping two people from implementing a...

Re: Sanitize inputs for Oolite-manifests.plist

Maybe Im a bit OCD about this, but we shouldnt try to work around things like unmatched or wrongly escaped quotes, this is a recipe for flaky half working code which mysteriously stops working from time to time. We should simply log the error clearly or better provide an easy to use OXP validation t...

Re: [RELEASE] Addons for Beginners (Vital Statistics)

Quite so, the rest of the world has finally caught up with the development departments, now anyone *not* wearing jeans and a t shirt is a bit of an oddity in many organisations.

Personally I miss a collar and tie, but Id be laughed out of town if I showed up in a 3 piece suit.

Re: Law: Legal Consequences

Fair enough. But I'm not a computer programmer. The ability to generate copious quantities of obfuscatory polysyllabic nomenclature in no way signifies comprehension of the mysteries of semi-colonic parantheses. What should I be looking for ? And: what is the significance of vanilla-coded station a...

Re: Law: Legal Consequences

Ummm... So what is the situation with being in sight of a GalCop auxiliary station? Is it actually meaningful from a legal perspective, or not? A Sothis, say? Does the OXP have to be "legally programmed" to recognise and categorise misdemeanors, or does merely labelling Sothis as a GalCop...

Re: Law: Legal Consequences

So where are you "seen"? Are you asking how its coded or are you asking from an in universe perspective? I think that "seen" means in scanner range of anyone with a police class or the aegis of the station. But I dont remember if its the criminal, their victim or both that have ...

Re: Law: Legal Consequences

Remember that this is all also in the context of who saw what. Although some of these are punishable whether or not you *are* punished depends if it was seen. There is no such thing as an offender crime or a fugitive crime but rather each crime that gets witnessed draws a bounty and depending how bi...

I cannot say that its my field, but the basics seem simple enough to me. What exactly do you want to know?

Re: [BETA TOOL] Oolite Galaxy Generator

But how does Headlights.oxp work then? Is it different that in effect it counts as a brightening of the entire solar system in that view, rather than a second light source is attached to my ship? There is a property system.ambientLevel which sets the brightness for the whole system, this is simply ...

Re: [BETA TOOL] Oolite Galaxy Generator

My understanding is that the oxp's override/trump the vanilla game coding thanks to these "spidermoney" tags written into it, which allow the javascript of the oxp to "trump" the vanilla game code. This is a bit of a misunderstanding. The core game is written in Objective C (cor...

Re: Non-English Keyboard Problems

On this image you can see the two keyboards I am facing every day. On top there is a MF2 US keyboard, while on bottom there is a MF2 German keyboard. OK, I give up. I have installed 2 versions of oolite on this laptop (german windows 10 home, qwertz keyboard) over this thread to check the key mappi...

Re: Non-English Keyboard Problems

Either we work together or I send one of my keyboards over to you. Which probably would save time on both our ends? you realise the keyboards are exactly the same, they just have different stickers on the letters, right? I for my side do not even know in what situations which keypress should help a...

We all do things differently - and there is a lot of information out there.
Indeed, but as I have been trying to say, I am having difficulty understanding the question you are asking.

Can I in some way help you with whatever you are trying to achieve?

Re: Non-English Keyboard Problems

As far as I can tell a fresh installation uses the same keys (not the same letters!) as the english layout. So for me the challenge would not be to remap the keys, but rather to provide an overlay so that people who use qwertz can find the corresponding key on their keyboard. For example we dont use...
