The "ship's computer" is a bit of a clunker. An old Dell with something like 128 meg of ram and runs WinXP. I think I paid about 60$ USD for it off ebay. But that'll work for pdfs, other useful or fun documents and speech synth with limited voice rec. I started a new chatbot AI (answerpad)...

I like it... and the names are especially good for fiction. I presume you've had a look at ClymAngus' vector maps? Yes, just about 2 days ago! They're excellent. I put them on the "ship's computer". My "ship's computer" is a laptop I keep by the desktop machine I play on. I keep...

Thanks, El Viejo. Indeed, spacers would have their names for things, most likely for far more items than the planetbound clodkickers might even be aware of. "Devil's Run" or "The Slot" might be names spacers have for a well known path where there is a lot of pirate activity or wh...

I think that the Navy, like most things, is an option each player can decide on for themselves. As long as the "strict" setting remains as the backbone of the game, we can't really go wrong. Elite was always a good playable game, addictive and memorable enough that almost every computer I'...

I would think that since they are a drone/bot, the reason for the bounty is to make sure the Thargons (possibly in some as yet unseen sort of ship) don't recover them and re-use them. So it is disabling/destroying enemy equipment to prevent it being used that the cr and "kill" are for. Sin...

I like to make sure I have a bit of distance, and then cut speed to half or a quarter. Make them come to me, while I'm ambling along, sniping and using some rolls to make sure I remain a moving target. When we get close, afterburner and break downwards and to port or starboard. If front laser is goo...

The mission is kinda anticlimactic. Don't get me wrong, can't complain about the payout. It'd take a whole heap of cr to begin to equal the bump to "dangerous" for "smile on my face" potential. And the mission itself is nicely tense, following the leads and thinking over jumps ca...

Yeah, too many unlabelled buttons can be a problem. Personally I keep the firing button for missiles off the joystick. Had too many little accidents with that. Besides, it's somehow a bit more gratifying to reach out with the other hand and hit a button on the keyboard/panel for that. But having the...

Well, if you're running short on keys, you can always "join the joystick heresy" (or gamepad or whatever). Some joysticks have enough configurable buttons to take some of the weight off the keyconfig file. I've been playing with the keyconfigs a bit, since I've been tinkering with modding ...
