Re: Does anyone else kill the 'Mass locker?'

Quick question: Does anyone else engage the unfortunate Python, Adder, or whatever other piece of scum that 'Mass locks' your Torus Drive? I'm tempted. Oh yes, I'm tempted. Being a 'Conda jock my normal inclination is to let them outrun me in cruise mode and save whatever injector fuel for when I r...

Re: Quote of the week!

I'll repeat, you cannot derive any worthwhile morality from atheism. Take the very first moral principle that any & every society needs to get started: thou shalt not slit thy neighbours throat while he sleeps. What logical process can get you from the premise "there is no god" to the...

Re: The music industry

   While "Disaster Area"'s P.A. system may have contravened strategic arms limitation treaties, I think On the Floor by IceJJFish qualifies for violating several Geneva Conventions against torture... Hey, whaddaya mean you got some second-hand Vogon "Poetry Apprec...

Re: Take the Solarnauts challenge!

'Tis a pity that, being the second sentence, and not the first, it's not eligible for the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest... Heh.. I'm really starting to get into this story. I'm not sure what I'm enjoying most.. the mangled sentences, the mangled spelling, the mangled grammar, the mangled tens...

Re: Take the Solarnauts challenge!

Is this the UK television SF equivalent of "The Eye of Argon"?

I only got up to 6:57 before my "bad dialogue-ometer" redlined and my suspension-of-disbelief dropped below minimum safe levels...

Re: All contracts only worth 100Cr?

Thanks everyone - I've done some spring-cleaning of my OXPs and upgraded a bunch to OXZs, and after another system jump all my contract prices are looking more realistic. :-)

Re: What would a 'real' spaceship actually look like?

Cody could be on to something, you know. All the plant and yards on 'our' side of the Moon, and aim the asteroids at the other side - they would even be conveniently broken up, and nobody would notice all the extra craters  I'm sure that's what they said about using the Moon as a nuclear wast...

(SOLVED) All contracts only worth 100Cr?

Oolite v1.82, Linux 64-bit version For some reason, I'm finding all freight contracts are now only worth around 100Cr regardless of the volume, type, or type of destination - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B61EAVLHEY8TYVFFdXVFdUtpa1U/view?usp=sharing Passenger contracts seem to be unaffected. I g...

Re: 3D Modeling Software

I also wouldn't consider Blender easy to use. Sketchup does fit that bill though. And even in the free version you can use add-ins from sites like sketchucation. Their plugin manager is especially useful. <sigh> I can't even get my head around Sketchup... and as for Blender, even stuff at the level...

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...

So Commander Trescon, an occasional acquaintance and drinking buddy of mine, was telling me the other day about his recent encounters in the south-west sector of Chart Two. He used to be a 'Conda jockey, same as me, but after D.T.T Spaceways started building ships with a similar cargo capacity to th...

Re: Quote of the week!

We did away with the TV Licence fee here in NZ years ago - the fund for local broadcasting (New Zealand on Air) is paid out of general taxation. Which saves money on all that tedious mucking about with licensing compliance... Yes, it sounds innocuous enough. Until you find yourselves with a $1,100,...

Re: Quote of the week!

<chuckles - Smivs loves cynicism> I know what you mean - the Licence is becoming ever more irrelevant and anachronistic. Auntie will have to be funded differently in the future. We did away with the TV Licence fee here in NZ years ago - the fund for local broadcasting (New Zealand on Air) is paid o...
