Re: Looking ahead

Want boring? http://www.shatters.net/celestia/ Great app ... massive scale, wonderful graphics ... would not make for good game play though IMO ... Yes, in Frontier you trade and you fight, but you don't dogfight. Like DH says above, it was just screaming back and forth on autopilot, holding down th...

You might find this forum: http://nendowingsmirai.yuku.com/ of great use. Almost as friendly as this one! And you don't have to go to Riedquat!

Perhaps if there ever was an 'Oolite 2' these steps might be considered to make the game more 'sensible'. But would this be welcomed? Perhaps an "Oolite 2" could be envisioned as more of a "space simulator engine" and less an "Elite clone"? It seems to me that this may...

How many of you are using Wings3D for modeling?

I'm considering the commission of an Erlang plugin, or plugins, to allow import and export of Oolite .dat files to and from Wings3D without needing a separate Python based conversion. To that end, I've started a dialog with a colleague who has written several successful plugins for Wings to see if h...

Excellent, free and a no-brainer to install and use. Started using it several years ago and never went back to Notepad or Word on my MS machine ...

Most of the specs I see for that card list it with either 256 or 512MB VRAM ... So, yes, you're going to have some memory issues if those specs match your card ...

I've read a bit through the code in both Assassin's Guild and Trident Down. Very impressive work on both counts! But, to extend of evolve either of those OXPs, an author would need to be familiar with the underlying code and how it works. Most of the IF authors I know wouldn't write IF at all if the...

I think if you're going to enact some kind of policy like that, it needs to be clear, concise and universal. Well said. While each forum has it's own rules regarding this kind of issue, by having it posted in the FAQ section for example, the issue then becomes one of complying with board rules and ...

Oolite, game depth and CYOA ... An idea.

I've been kicking around an idea in my head for the last week or two and I'd like to get some feedback from you folks if you have a minute ... I've been a fan of Interactive Fiction (IF: think text-adventures a'la Zork) since before Elite on the C64. One aspect of IF that I like, is that it can comb...

Well, while you're at it, you should pull the ad out of your sig too. Look at it this way, if folks were allowed to start posting ads for commercial sites, what's to stop someone from linking to a porn, warez or other questionable site? There are "under 18" users here and that can make it ...

Ok, maybe some silly questions... So, if you're in a Fuel Station, and you've come to a halt (before triggering the fueling process), are are you still on a pursuers radar? Does a missile target lock still work? If it does, won't the missile impact the fuel station first? (Although I suspect the fue...

I'm using Firefox 3.6.12 and I'm getting "Page not found errors" on every download link. Mousing over any of the links in the page shows only http://www.alaise.com.au/ in the info bar at the bottom of the browser. It should be showing the full URL link to the file. From the page source the...

"Under Mac OS X, the Debug OXP provides a menu with various debugging options and an integrated JavaScript console..." Again, curious. Why this isn't implemented in the PC or LINUX versions? I'm on a learning curve with Oolite and I've been discovering aspects of Javascript and Spidermonke...
