Re: Science Fiction Trivia

I'm intrigued to see how this plays out, so I'll allow it. The feeling I'd got is that - RBQ -like - we'd individually chip away at the clues given, until someone gets enough strands together to either hang themselves, or pull the edifice into the harbour. Is that how you envision it? I hadn't real...

Is 3 then Babel 17?
Well, number 2 actually, but close enough. Have a meaningless bonus point.

Okay, then answer no. 6 (and the title answer for no. 1) is Dahlgren by Samuel R. Delaney.
Yep, Dahlgren. So that's the 1/6 key question answered.

Would "to wound the autumnal city" be an acceptable answer for no. 1? Or would you prefer the book title?
Interesting.

I was expecting the title, but I'm intrigued to see how this plays out, so I'll allow it.

If that's not Grendel, it's his Mommy ... whose name escapes me. Actually, is she ever actually given a name?
Wikipedia wrote:
Grendel's mother, who is never given a name in the text,
Thought not.

I go for Grendel.

And that's correct. One MBP for the RockDoctor.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Hmm, the deafening silence doesn't seem too promising. I'll give it another 24 hours and then I'll provide a clue or two.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

OK, let's see whether this works. I'll add clues if necessary, but I imagine the combined knowledge of the regulars here will make short work of it. 6 related questions. They can be answered in any order (or in some cases not at all), but the winner will be whoever answers question 4, if questions 1...

Re: Screenshots

Those are incredibly atmospheric (no pun intended). The planetary details make a brilliant backdrop, with the space station hanging over them. Really, really well done.

Re: Time travel, and the note nobody wrote

No, not that either. Although, from the synopsis at Wikipedia, it looks intriguing. I suspect that as no-one has gone "Aha, I remember that", it's going to remain unfound. I'm describing too little (or rather, none) of the plot. But, if I may, how about this one: A time machine arrives in ...

Re: Time travel, and the note nobody wrote

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I wish I could come up with something more substantial regarding the plot. I'm pretty certain the character in the story only met himself once. I was really hoping that one of the 5 answers to Disembodied's question would be the one. This could become an obsessio...

Re: Time travel, and the note nobody wrote

Hmm, I've just read a synopsis, and none of it sounds familiar. I'm not sure I ever read any of Harry Harrison's stuff back then. I've remembered another small (and probably useless) detail. When the author/narrator first describes the encounter between present and future self, it isn't explained to...

Time travel, and the note nobody wrote

There was a recent question in the Science Fiction Trivia topic; Name five stories (films, TV, books, etc.) where people travel through time and meet older or younger versions of themselves. There should be some sort of interaction - not e.g. just seeing themselves going past on a bus. No more than ...
