Re: Science Fiction Trivia

The key is indeed Capitals of which there are 7. They form one word which are linked to several words in my musings but will form the title of a book (tome), written a long time ago in a different language. The work is a first (according to some). As a new hint: the work is also linked to 'sleepless...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

With Christmas now behind us, things can turn normal again. So to sum it all up, a rhyme was shown (It is the right tiMe for a nonSensical rhyme, the solUtioN, i am sure will fOrever endure. Modern it is not, and will not be for ever more. Enjoy this riddle, and may thee find thine lore.) and I just...

If one needs another sound
Latin letters are abound
You may not have this in your home,
But it most definitely is a tome

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

The key is the key,
and if that doesn't pleasure thee,
one may find a link so strong
in this rather un-christmassy song.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Cheers, spud. OK, since it is the month of St. Nicholas and linked with that were presents with little poems and rhyme with sometimes cryptic clues to what the presents were, here's the following. It is the right tiMe for a nonSensical rhyme, the solUtioN, i am sure will fOrever endure. Modern it is...

I think for the purposes of the question I'd have to say that a series of books only counts as one.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

It's been a long time since I read Chocky , but I'm not sure it quite fits Big D's criteria? Not having read it myself, but from what I could read online, Chocky's race sent scouts out in search of new planets to colonise, or to provide subtle guidance to newly-emerging intelligent life. I would sa...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

I got five books. :P Triplanetary, First Lensman, Galactic Patrol, Gray Lensman and finally Second Stage Lensmen. All written by E E Smith, where the Arisians (IIRC) bred and supported humans as a weapon against their enemies, which I can't remember the name of. There is a sixth one but I never got ...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Hmm, according to 'Ur-who-shall-be-obeyed-at-all-times' she remembered it as an 11 year old who might have had a birthday during it all. Interestingly enough, the Amazon-blurp also states 11, so the info on Wiki may be a bit out here. She remembered the maths bit, because the training was in binarie...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Correct!

Now the author of The Day of the Triffids later wrote a work about an 11 year old who was taught complex mathematics by someone. The name of that someone (and the name of the work) is what we are after.

The title of the better known tale is (still slightly cryptic): A day in the life of the oily plants.
