Re: [BETA] Sniper Scope

Do you happen to have any of KW's huds? I've been trying to get my hands on one to try out and been failing dismally. I very much like his docked HUD. I can't remember if they were ever released separately, but they were often incorporated into his ship oxps. Meaning that if you bought the ship and...

Re: Render to Framebuffer

And good to see you back, Mauiby! Thanks! Don't know if this is a brief fly-by or if I'll stay in orbit for some time. Only time will tell! In the meantime, I think that I have diverted the drawing to render to a texture and so I see a nice black screen with nothing on it. Next step is to see if I ...

Re: Render to Framebuffer

Are we talking about the possibility of introducing binary stars here? Not directly, although linked. Rendering to a frame buffer is one of the requirements for environment mapping, which would allow reflections and such as mentioned by a_c. 'Twould also be a requirement if one were to attempt defe...

Re: Render to Framebuffer

Looking through the history on khronos.org, it seems that FBOs were promoted to core in v3.0. So based on that I'll target 3.0. In the event of success I can always list the specific extensions used, in the same way that shader support seems to be queried. Doxygen is now installed and documentation ...

Render to Framebuffer

Yup, it would be nice to implement multiple light sources at some point in the future. Also environment mapping (for reflections and image-based lighting) and shadows ,which would be what is needed to bring the in-game lighting to photorealistic levels. Until such time, we will still have to suspen...

Re: Variable-geometry ships?

Welcome back, I was always a fan of your feudal.oxp :) That wasn't me - that was Ramirez! I suspect that Cholmondely pointed me there as my user statistics show that as my most active topic. So a reasonable thing that I might be interested in. IIRC, 'twas the reason I joined the forums - ran into a...

Re: Variable-geometry ships?

I wouldn't bother with putting it on the wiki myself - it's little more than a proof of concept I've whipped up this afternoon to serve as inspiration! I changed a tiny handful of lines in the default vertex shader and shoved it onto a default cobby. And in the process it's lost its textures. ______...

Re: Variable-geometry ships?

An alternative way would be to tweak the vertices in the vertex shader. Basic proof of concept can be found here: https://app.box.com/s/nekj1u0rhcf59hx08yjgw4r4x65bjpp1 Note: I've just zipped up an oxp; I haven't bothered looking up new things like an oxz as of yet. Using the debug console simply :s...

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

And as if by magic I found a way to search for it - bit of a cheat, hope nobody objects. I searched on "Appeared in Star Trek and Star Wars" then checked the people who came up for Dr. Who. It's Simon Pegg Played "the editor" in the Dr. Who episode The Long Game (2005) Played Sc...

Re: Screenshots

Nice! Does this mean that blending is only available for visual effects? And that they are drawn after all of the other, usual, 'solid' entities?

I may have to start tinkering about!

Re: Science Fiction Trivia

Well, I couldn't think of anything literary (clearly an indication that I need to read some more!), so for lack of something better, let's see if anyone can name an actor who has had a part in some form of each of Star Trek, Star Wars, and Doctor Who.

Re: Machine maintenance tips?

Well this is a most timely thread resurrection! I'm planning on installing a new harddrive into my desktop at some point this week, and am intending to clean out its insides at the same time. A toothbrush or paint brush make a lot of sense, and I would never have thought of them!
