Re: Greetings!

look for a low tech agrarian world and a high tech industrial world close together (less then 7 LY apart). It's not the technology levels that are important, really, it's how rich or poor the economy is. A Poor Agricultural world sells the cheapest agricultural goods, and pays the highest prices fo...

Re: OXP UPDATE (but initial thread seems absent): Nexus miss

Could we get more descriptions of what your oxp provides? I'd personally like to see what it might provide in comparison to the armour oxp and the missiles and bombs oxp.

Re: Greetings!

Welcome! I actually had the opportunity to play the original Elite game (on a commodore, not whatever those things were before you had the old, large floppies), and I used a stick for that game. However, Oolite has a lot of options, lots of keys that can be used. So I use a keyboard for this game (t...

Re: Split: Assassins

I haven't played the game for years... Yeah, the OXPers curse - but you really ought to actually play sometimes. I can see no connection between assassins and hunters - but I'm wasting my breath, methinks. There's a tenuous connection, but it's slim at best. I think the problem mostly comes in from...

Re: Passenger missions approach.

After about eight years playing, mostly in my rusty ferdelance which I got a good deal on six years ago, I almost exclusively run passengers in the 2 berths I could fit in, the rest of the cargo hold is used for scooping cargo or survival pods en route, scooped stuff is 100% profit. I always look f...

Re: Proposal for 1.82: equipment balancing and choices

Why not have the damage inflicted by the laser (of whatever flavour) be range-dependent? So at point-blank range it gives 100% of its damage level, but at maximum range it only gives 50% (for example). Percentages and damage levels could be tweaked, but it perhaps offers a way to maintain the long ...

Re: Proposal for 1.82: equipment balancing and choices

Because of the difficulty in getting all your shots in on a ship with the military laser (for reasons of overheating), I use the sniper lock oxp. However, what this means is that I don't hit enemies before they are close enough for target locking. So, as far as reducing the military laser to scanner...

Re: Proposal for 1.82: equipment balancing and choices

I feel as if I need to speak up again. Much of what has been mentioned changes the core game mechanics dramatically. Looking back to the original post, the "issue" was a lack of "balancing" among oxp equipment. That is contradictory to what I believe to be the nature of oxps. Oxp...

Re: Proposal for 1.82: equipment balancing and choices

I don't know about a larger bill as I already have to be careful about my maintenance bill (if on a long distance courier mission, sometimes I can't fix it until it is more than 20k credits, though I've been trying to get them at navy stations, which helps a lot), but having a breakdown of what each...

Re: Proposal for 1.82: equipment balancing and choices

... what I really want is to be able to set waypoints on the long-range chart, and have the ANA factor those into a route. Absolutely this! In effect, I've used the long-range destination marker as a waypoint for years! Exactly, and if the device also let you calculate a rough estimate of how long ...

Re: Proposal for 1.82: equipment balancing and choices

One thing I want to look at for 1.82 is equipment and Equipment OXPs, and also their relationship with Ship OXPs. There are a few issues of game balance, inter-OXP compatibility, and interesting player choice that I think we could do better with here, and I think a few slight changes can make the F...

Re: Passenger missions approach.

Aye to this. The combination of courier and passenger berths is very interesting. Planning your routes in chart 5 mayhap be a bit harder/easier than in some of the others. On the one hand, you really don't have many choices as to which way you are going to go as once you are on one end of the galaxy...

Out of curiosity, are there more ranks available now that 1.8 has introduced greater accuracy in the regular ranks of npcs?

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...

I tell you what, I must be the luckiest son of a gun there is. Today was the first day I got to fly in space on my own ship. Oh wait, don't leave yet! There's more to this story than a wide eyed young boy looking for adventure among the stars. No, this is a tale of luck and woe. So, my parents were ...

Re: Tales from the spacelanes...

After some time doing bounty hunting and kitting out my very nice Supercobra, the Red Lightning, in the best equipment the galaxy had to offer, I grew tired of fighting...somewhat. The call of the bounty will get me again someday, and it's hard not to stop by the local NavySec station to help out ag...
