Imagine any cityport/outpost image overlayed with a dark, partially transparent layer a la BGS (maybe a bit more transparent than that). What you might then get us more of a 'feeling' of a port with the detail being rather more hazy. Is it underwater or not for example... are those domes or rocks......

I'd forgotten we have another tool to use. We can add backgrounds to the arrival report screen... All we need to do is find (or create) some good looking images to use for each of the possible landing points (city, leisure complex, factory, prison, military base, etc) Exactly my point and precisely...

It might be a case of too many cooks here (and I mean no disrespect to anyone), so I'll probably shut up (relatively... for a bit...) after this. With the closing doors effect, I don't get a sense of landing, rather I get a sense of being swallowed up by some larger entity or even of a quirky 'game ...

Here I've matched up a red-hued version of the cloud image to the planet's air color. It does look better when they match. By 1:30 in the video, there's a strong sense that the player is no longer in space I think: approx 30 seconds in - apparent darkening of some areas of the texture approx 50 sec...

1) The license for a car is quite different for that for a tractor or a for a juggernaut. Ability to drive the one might well not confer a legal ability to drive the other. Agreed. I watched both videos. And got also confused why the marker would move over the planet surface. In the beginning it is not aligned with the ship's nose, so it cannot be the trajectory.
