Re: Joystick tweaks
It would be nice to see joystick code unified across platforms. The Mac joystick code (src/Cocoa/OOMacJoystickManager.m) is already nonlinear, and has no precision toggle. The nonlinearity allows pretty good precision even with a game pad, although a smoother transition from the dead zone would be g...

Re: Abandoned Cruiser? (concept only)
There was some talk in the "Progress" thread about station rotation rates, and for some reason I brought up the idea of a tumbling Rock Hermit, slowly rotating on all three axes, and how much "fun" it would be to try and dock with. Point of order: in three dimensions, it is only...

....and upgraded my OS to .... Be careful with upgrading. I upgraded my mac this weekend to Marvericks. Before installation it did a compatibility test of recent used applications: I got a warning that Oolite_1.40 and Oolite_1.55 are no longer compatible with Marvericks... They aren’t compatible wi...

Re: Progress
Maybe I'm the only person who thinks this, but I suspect not, so I think the desire to stay with the classic 'Elite' ships (as an option) is entirely reasonable. The existing core Oolite ships are not unmodified Elite ships, and I don’t think one can objectively say they’re “more like” the original...

Re: Progress
OXPs are the choice mechanism. Putting a switch in the core game isn’t a solution to anything, it’s an abdication of design responsibility.Smivs wrote:So I think a choice should be available - players should be able to select between the proposed new ships and the original set.

Re: Progress
Does that mean that the Griff set is now really complete? (At least it used to be Ahruman's policy to not incorporate the Griff models until there was a consistently designed model for each entry in Oolite's shipdata.) Actually, it used to be my policy to not incorporate Griff’s models until their ...

We use ReCAPTCHA, which significantly reduces the number of bots that actually get to post anything, but our main defence is user groups. Newly registered users are put in a group called, helpfully, Newly Registered Users, and their posts are invisible to other users until approved by a moderator. T...

Re: Saving/loading screen on Mac
It’s intentional. The quality of the custom interface just isn’t very good; it used to be used on the Mac in full screen mode only for technical reasons.

I'm not a fan of "Game Over" appearing over on the right hand side of the screen. I don't think this should really be a HUD function.cim wrote:HUD and interface work continues with the Multi-function displays (MFDs).

Re: Proposed wiki page - OXPs for new players.
Efforts like this always seem to get shot down because defining a perfect set of beginner OXPs is impossible. Perfect is the enemy of good, and our current giant list of OXPs is extremely unapproachable. I would very much like to see a community-curated list of starter OXPs, even if it doesn’t make ...

Re: Sci-fi ship size comparison chart
Closest match for the Coriolis: it’s a little smaller than the Borg Tactical Sphere.
Edit: Oh, and to continue the Marathon theme, the UESC Marathon is as long as the dark grey Titan in centre-top, but wider. This is quite large, but it should be noted that the Marathon is a converted moon.

Re: Sci-fi ship size comparison chart
Near the top right is the Mass Effect Citadel Council SA Alliance Carrier at 750 metres long. It’s a good proxy for the Behemoth. If you can find it (between the lower two Super Star Destroyers), the Star Wars Corellian Corvette is slightly shorter than an Aanconda.
